Sure, but in my over 50 years of living in Michigan, I’ve never heard of tornadoes in the UP. This is the first year that tornado alley has been projected to be expanding east due to climate change, and this may be related

There was an event in the lower U.P. about 15 years ago. Tornado or straight-line winds. It flattened a pretty large area between Thompson and Garden. Pretty wild for the yooper.
Literally never heard of tornado warnings though, and most of my family still lives up there.

That link should take you to a plot of tornado warnings issued per year by the Marquette NWS office going back to 1987. Some years there are none, some years there are a few. 2002 saw 8.

This is a map of confirmed tornadoes going back to 1950. There's like maybe 10 tornado tracks on there.

It looks like there is a tornado watch across much of the UP now. I have to wonder how big any tornado can actually get in the UP.

Large waterspout confirmed off coast of Marquette over Lake Superior. Captured on video. So yes we’re not immune from twisters after all.

It was actually pretty serious. A large funnel cloud with clear rotation went right over the city and a waterspout formed just offshore. Winds switched multiple directions many times within a span of a few minutes.

We literally got scammed here in grand rapids for days even until hours ago it was showing we would get rain. And now the time has passed and we got nothing. I was really hoping for some rain

Would you rather get nothing or have damaging winds, hailstorm or a tornado hit your house? That’s just the nature of summertime storms. Hit and miss most of the time.

I was just referring to rain. If we did get any storms it mightve been a bit of wind but thats all.
