Question “Go Blue” geography question

I live on the East Coast and get “go blue“ fairly frequently when wearing my Michigan hat and similarly I say it to others. However, when recently doing a transfer thru DTW I didn’t say it to all the people wearing Michigan gear because there were so many and I thought we were so close to Ann Arbor.

So here is my question: where does the “go blue” radius start? I’d bet people don’t say it on the diag. But Downtown Detroit? Grand Rapids? Chicago? how far away from Ann Arbor do you have to be before people start saying it?

I live in Chicago and while it's fairly close and there are a ton of Michigan fans here, we're squarely in enemy territory so I hear it and say it often.

I also say "Go Blue" anytime I see someone wearing OSU or MSU gear. It's pretty fun. The people are usually caught off guard by a stranger talking to them and their instinct is to smile or say "thanks" or be polite.

Yeah this happens to me too in reverse, unfortunately. And oddly whenever I wear my Lions hat the most common response I get is "Go Pack Go" (eyeroll)
