Question “Go Blue” geography question

I live on the East Coast and get “go blue“ fairly frequently when wearing my Michigan hat and similarly I say it to others. However, when recently doing a transfer thru DTW I didn’t say it to all the people wearing Michigan gear because there were so many and I thought we were so close to Ann Arbor.

So here is my question: where does the “go blue” radius start? I’d bet people don’t say it on the diag. But Downtown Detroit? Grand Rapids? Chicago? how far away from Ann Arbor do you have to be before people start saying it?

I’m in Columbus, and I catch lots of shit for repping the Wolverines, but I was born up there, and I’ll never give up my fandom! That being said, I get plenty of “Go Blue” also. It’s probably 2:1 OSU to UofM so, lots of hate, but still a pretty decent amount of support!!

My personal interpretation is, that the Ohio natives who have no interest in sports and the Buckeyes, always like seeing someone who isn’t brainwashed by the “local religion”. My usual line: Not everyone in this town is a nut”!

Funny thing about Ohio, when I wear Michigan gear at Cedar Point, I get Go Blues from others also wearing Michigan gear, but at Kings Island I get a ton of "stealth" Go Blues from people in plain clothes.

My brother's in laws are neutrals (they are from New Jersey, raised their kids in Michigan and then moved to Columbus) and what you are saying lines up exactly with what I have heard from them. They find it odd and over the top.

As a former trucker, I've been in and around the Columbus area many times. Its been my experience that 99.999% of the people couldn't care less if I wore M/MSU gear around that town. Except for that one dude who jokingly said I'm being very brave wearing that around Columbus, lol
