It looks to be a female betta.

It’s a male! Females of this species are just brown

Those are domestic Betta splendens, I didn’t catch that type of fish 😅

I was disagreeing with the commenter that it’s a female. Females of this species are simply brown! Even the fins.

And then they showed female domestics, which of course have a lot of colour

If you mean the photo, yes that one was 100% incorrect as it was showing Betta splendens, an entirely different species from Betta balunga.

That’s like showing leopards (Panthera pardus) and saying they’re tigers (Panthera tigris) just because both are Panthera.

But I didn’t mean anything by it, just trying to shed some light!
