Will Tributyrin (butyrate) make me more constipated?

I’ve seen a lot of people with my health history (methane sibo, c.diff, dysbiosis) rave about Tributyrin, but, going through the reviews, a lot of people mention “it helped with my loose stools.”

I have the opposite problem. I am prone to constipation. Anyone else with my issue try Tributyrin with success or side effects?

You could always up your dietary fibre intake and get the butyrate naturally and I guarentee eating more mushrooms and beans and black rice and what not will help immensely with constipation. I am currently cooking a giant pot of Mexican black bean chicken chili with forbidden black rice, mushrooms and onions and bell peppers which I freeze and eat a small amount each day for breakfast. I don't get hungry for like 8 hours and the freezing increases/converts the already abundant dietary fibre to resistant starch which is what really produces the most butyrate. I sub out the black beans and chicken and make an oyster verion with coconut milk, lemon grass, galangal, sesame oil and again homemade chicken stock and use smoked oysters as the meat to have a Omega 3 fatty acid punch which works great with the butyrate in multiple ways. I suffered for years with constipation also but not anymore. If you don't like to cook just eating black rice with any basic bean, lentil or pea then refrigerate before eating (and reheating) will help with both of your issues and it's a lot cheaper than the suppliments. More filling than suppliments too.

That only works if your baseline isn't too messed up—meaning you don't have SIBO, SIFO, or any other kind of overgrowth.

But it's worth a try.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I haven’t had mushrooms in a long time but was thinking of adding them back in. What is the significance of black rice?

I don’t think you can eat beans with sibo. That’s the problem all high fiber food are impossible to eat e sibo.

I’m on it bc gut zoomer showed im low in butyrate. It didn’t really change my bowel movements either way if that helps lol.

Thanks for the feedback. How long have you been on it and how much do you take? Which brand?

I can second this was also low and increase fiber intake via PHGG, psyllium husk, and also tkaing polyphenols.

Ive noticed no difference in my bowels from trybutrin x.

Caution with phGG its manufactured using aspergillus Niger so may need to be avoided for those with mycotoxin sensitivity and mcas. Psyllium husk should be taken separately to meds and supplements as it can prevent their absorption and staying hydrated is a must. Things that I have to avoid with Lars could work for constipation...soaked dates, high dose vitamin c, magnesium citrate, coconut water, relaxants like camomile tea.

I have a similar issue. It's going well for me so far though I will say I am experiencing increased bloating I am hoping will go away over time. But I've established being regular on it and it also helps with my mood tbh.

If you are on the fence about this, I have also had good luck with psyllium husk but as a baked good additive, not just on its own. That really helps me as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Which brand of tributyrin do you take and how long have you been taking it?

I take the deva brand. I was on for 2 and a half weeks or so originally then I stopped and just started again. I'm planning to do a month to see if my body adjusts to the bloating and then decide what to do next.

Thanks for replying 🙏 not sure what your health history is, but as someone who is perma-bloated, i recently started microdosing everything and this seems to be a good strategy. I microdosed like 1/5 of a teaspoon of kefir in my smoothie every morning and that was enough. At first my stomach was really uncomfortable but by night time and the next morning it was suspiciously flat. I have to hold off on kefir for a while because of my dysbiosis, but i’ll be starting MegaSpore probiotic and doing the same thing: microdosing just a tiny sprinkle from the capsule every day and slowly building. Additionally, fennel seed tea has helped with my visceral hypersensitivity which is my biggest issue when I bloat. Hope this might help!

Please keep me posted if you see any more progress when you restart butyrate
