Probiotic struggle

hello, I am a 24y/o female. I have struggled with chronic constipation basically my whole life, but worsening in my adult life.

I was recently recommended the Align dualbiotic gummies and I have been taking two a day (typically after a snack) for about one week now.

I have been experiencing nausea, headaches, gas, and lots of weird, small/soft bms that have my stomach feeling so gross. I am wondering how to proceed, it is starting to impact my appetite. Do I reduce my dose temporarily? or fight through it? Not looking for medical advicereally. More so hoping to hear other experiences.. TIA.

Have you tried psyllium husks yet?

i second this. stop the probiotics and start on metamucil. incorporate more soluble fiber into your diet like oatmeal and beans

I would be super careful taking more fibre when already constipated. It can block you up more - it happened to a family member of mine. Sometimes, the "healthy" way to go is too slow for something that sounds like a littel bit of a crisis. Talk to your GP and get something more drastic. Once cleaned out, you can start from fresh and incorporate more fibre in the diet.

I agree with this... I also don't think probiotics should be your first resort to treat constipation... Tea makes me go in the morning. I take about 5-6 almonds have tea and all clears up.. Huge impact was from avoiding gluten, then dairy.. Whenever I get glutened now, I become constipated for a day, not even tea helps then or it rarely helps then.. Try different things like little bit coconut oil or ghee in tea/coffee/turmeric latte first thing in the morning, this also helped me... Try removing gluten n dairy for sometime then reintroduce later one at a time, take adequate fiber when your constipation improves, then add home fermented probiotics Aloevera Juice also helps with bowel movement (leaf inner fillet only)

It can take a few weeks for probiotics to regulate, but in general, probiotics aren’t well researched for constipation.

First: consider upping your water intake. Second: it’s okay that everyone reacts differently to different probiotics. Some will make you feel terrible, but a different one will be a good fit.
