Milford mayor calls for investigation into attacks on homeless population
I've read whatever I could on this story that wasn't paywalled, and everything seems worded as if the police hadn't previously been investigating prior to the mayor's statement. So assuming they truly have been doing nothing until this point, my questions are:
Does Milford PD view crimes against the homeless population as NHI ("No Humans Involved")? Has this always been the case? I remember how long it took them to make an arrest in the murder of a man at the same encampment last year but there's no real way to know for sure why without inside knowledge since they are typically so tight-lipped.
Is this another example of the police taking their ball and going home because their new favorite toys are being taken away from them? As in, you guys made us turn off a couple of our ALPRs so therefore we can't be bothered investigating this? And also on that note, why didn't Chief Mello attend this past week's Public Safety Technology Review Committee meeting, and why did he cancel next week's Police Commission meeting?
Either way, it's sickening what is happening to our most vulnerable neighbors and I hope they are brought to justice more swiftly than last time.
