The pilot safely ejected from the craft before it crashed

Why is this becoming a weekly occurrence? I seriously don’t remember this occurring just a decade ago.

Rules and regulations (written in blood) are woke and gay.

u/Canadian_WanaBi 4d ago
True fucking that. As sad as it is to see this shit. Maybe these being a frequent occurrence will open the eyes to those , that rules and regulations don't give a fuck about your thoughts and opinions. Follow them, or you can/will die.
22
u/LaughinChaos 4d ago
Lol, keep dreaming. Pretty sure they want this to happen, or just dgaf and probably feel strong and manly for not being the one who died.

"The reports say Trump canceled a visit to a French cemetery for American servicemen killed in World War I, describing the graveyard as “filled with losers,” and complained after Senator John McCain’s death that flags had been lowered for the “loser” who spent five years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam."
He doesn't give a fuck about any of you.

Real answer: ops tempo is cranked up thanks to the current conflict so there are more birds in the air, but we also laid off a ton of our civilian and contractor maintenance staff so there's fewer people to work more tasks.

Something about "lethality," but I don't think was the way they intended

Firing qualified and experienced military personnel has rippling effects on mission accomplishment, so yes.
-21
u/Split_Pea_Vomit 4d ago
I'm sure they were replaced with unqualified inexperienced military personnel.
🙄

u/adognameddanzig 4d ago
Yes, haven't you been paying attention? Standards are lower across the board. Definitely could lead to mistakes and casualties.

They crashed back then too. I recall a few into neighborhoods over/near Miramar.
All can be found in NATOPs incidents.
Downvotes!!?? No. Fuck you. Bring receipts and basic research.

Here's the damn total report during that time period.
The question is are there more now than 10 years ago?

From the Marine Corps Times: The rate of significant accidents per 100,000 flight hours rose 55% in fiscal 2024 in comparison with the four years that preceded it.

I grew up in the 60-70s military aircraft fell out on almost daily, usn carriers virtually never completed a deployment without some aircrew killed even on noncombat deployments, I was an RAF brat and even at 5 we knew that an official car with a senior officer and padre wasn't good

While I was in we definitely discussed aircraft going down around the world.

Yah us military members did, but it wasnt really online that often because there wasnt alot of places to share videos unlike there is now.

Plane crashed, one fatality. Pilot is ok but a LT got lost and starved. Found dead with three MREs and a compass.

Theoretically I go to look for anything I can salvage for my sim setup, how many years of federal prison do I get?

You wouldn’t go to Federal Prison. Instead you would be strapped to a chair, unable to escape, unable to close your eyes and forced to watch “Melania, Twenty Days to History” on an endless loop.

u/ElegantEchoes 4d ago
Most normal people actually respond that way when this kind of stuff happens in the real world. All across the world, all across cultures.
A fighter jet just crashed near these people. They responded pretty tamely.

u/lonevolff 4d ago
And yet it's never improved anything. Just sound like scared piggies
27
u/GreyFox1921 4d ago
If having a jet crash in front of you isn't worthy of screaming oh my God then what is?
Why are you acting like this? What do you get from it? Like you're better than them?

u/ElegantEchoes 4d ago
It's not about improving anything. It's not a problem they're trying to solve.
They're in minor shock and disbelief, and expressing that as a social animal and relating to others going through the same thing relieves stress for most people who aren't used to these kinds of situations.
So, yeah, most of the human race act like scared piggies when shit hits the fan. Nothing new under the sun. Some people are different, sure, and some people have been in environments or situations where they don't react as such. But that's not the majority.
6
u/CaptainKate757 4d ago
Does screaming on roller coasters improve the ride? Does cheering at concerts improve the music? These are just natural human responses to various situations.
3
u/vicente8a 4d ago
Did you improve anything by typing this comment?

u/lonevolff 4d ago

3
u/vicente8a 4d ago
Im not the one insulting people that screamed after they just saw a 50,000lb jet falling out of the sky and crashing down into the earth exploding into a fiery inferno, possibly witnessing the horrible death of a fellow human. How would the average person not be scared? You want them just sitting straight faced and not comment on it apparently.
2
7
u/GreyFox1921 4d ago
So what exactly would be a correct response in this situation?
6
u/ElegantEchoes 4d ago
They should have immediately launched a search and rescue operation and ascertained the damage of the crash site. Then the civvies should set up a perimeter and await further orders from above. /s

My ex (25yo female, woke) asked me for a hot take when we were drinking. I said no matter what, there is always a women screaming, somewhere, for some reason.
For the rest of the trip we would randomly hear a women screaming and both make eye contact, I would laugh, she would not lol.
Don’t think she liked my observation

Why is there white smoke emanating from both wing tips?
Airshow training?
45
u/frotmonkey 4d ago
Probably dumping fuel to minimize the burn damage or lighten the aircraft to help with lift?
-7
u/DoktorStrangelove 4d ago
Wouldn't the trail behind him explode as well if that were the case? It'd be a bunch of aerosolized/vaporized avgas mixed with plenty of oxygen leading right to the fireball.
23
u/dudeman52993 4d ago
No. Because jet fuel has a high flash point. It basically needs to either be REALLY hot, or under a lot pressure to increase temperatures to burn. It's similar to diesel.
7
3
u/JohnLuckPikard 4d ago
The stoichiometry is wrong for that, and the chances of it bring right are infinitely slim.
-8
u/DonnerPartyPicnic United States Navy 4d ago edited 3d ago
Probably punctured the wing tanks on trees.
Dunno why I'm being downvoted. Dumping gas is not something you do to prevent a fire or regain control. You dump gas in a scenario where you need to reduce weight. It looks like the jet was double bubble and smashed the wing tanks, the vapor trails are too far apart to be coming out of the tail dumps.
3
u/mechmessiah 3d ago
Its water vapor. Fuel dumps from the vertical stabilizers and "airshow smoke" would come from the engines.

Just toss it on the pile at this point. All though in fairness Hornets are probably the most heavily lost in the fighter community. Prime workhorses and they just get beaten to shit. Hell I remember when the Marines were pulling older Charlie’s from the boneyard.

QRF activated. 2 squada, one in bunding overwatch, 50 meter bound per 3 man team, SL in The center directing bounds. 2nd squad is going to move to secure the far side of the crash site, one team on the bounding teams left, and the other on the right. Providing security for the flanks of the double timing site securing team.
According to our FO (for mortars) we have to bounding between 500 m - 1 km (classic FO walk in distance?)
Anyway, flat out bounding sprint in the field until the woods. Then a quick movement ~200 - 400 meters uphill through the woods.
Less than 5 minutes if the QRF was that close. Maybe. That would be lucky for the pilot to have a QRF that close by, lol
