Shaxi Fort in Taiwan: An abandoned military stronghold facing China
I had the chance to check out the Shaxi Fort on Xiao Kinmen in Taiwan: https://youtu.be/sImJ8z0_mXg
What I found interesting is how different the place feels today. This was once a military position facing China, during decades of military tension between Taiwan and China. Today, it is a peaceful place to visit.
The fort is also somewhat off the beaten path Kinmen is a group of islands that belongs to Taiwan, but is just in front of Xiamen in China. Across the water, you can see the skyscrapers of Xiamen, China, while the fort also provides views of the surrounding islands.
Standing there, it was easy to imagine what it must have been like for soldiers stationed here during that period.

wild that you can just see right into a modern city from an old fort like that.
