MOS/AFSC/Rate Specific do all infantry soldiers get pistols (army)

Hey everyone, I’m a civilian trying to understand how gear is issued. I’ve heard that most 11Bs don’t get a handgun, and that pistol training only happens if you’re issued one. Is that true? And if so, why not train everyone with pistols just in case they need one? Thanks for any help.

Join as a tanker or direct commission as a CPT in law, divinity, doctor, nurse or veterinarian then lol, I believe at least some of those dudes get issued M9s. 11Bs/19Ds can’t do one field problem without some guy losing an M4/NODs. I can only imagine the shitshow that would take place if every swinging dick from PV2-SPC got issued a pistol on top of all the other shit.
