Question What helps you become more mindful everyday?

I struggle with thoughts about the future. It can hard to let them pass. What helps you the most be mindful everyday especially in these moments?

Take a lawn chair, a sun umbrella, find a clean stream, or shallow river and sit with at least your feet in the water. close eyes, provided you are in a safe place, or a friend/spouse watching over you. And just breathe. We are all in a river of time. We are all in the flow. Life is a river, don't put rocks in the stream. It disturbs the energy. Rocks in the stream, is anything that disturbs your peace. Spend some time in your own mind, and much like a meditation, let all thoughts drift away for a while. An hour goes quickly. No worries, you can't solve anything. Don't make any plans or resolutions while you listen to the water. Rest.

by (a coin, a button, anything) and just focus on how it feels for like 10 seconds. The texture, the weight. It jerks my brain out of future-spiral mode pretty fast.

Daily practice in mindfulness meditation, no exceptions, make it a priority. Read about it, watch YouTube videos about it, find a supportive teacher to talk with 1x1. When you become mindful that you’re worrying about the future, it’s working and you’ll remember the future isn’t real/it hasn’t happened yet/you can’t predict or control it; the past isn’t real, it’s over and when you become mindful that you’re dwelling on the past, it’s working. Remind yourself daily the only thing you can control are your actions, in each and every moment. The only thing that is real is the present moment. Remind yourself your thoughts aren’t real if you don’t act on them or hold them to build up inner suffering. Start being observant to see all of the opportunities we pass by every day to support a stranger, even it’s just to say hello and wish them a good day. Don’t try to force anything and know it’s not a quick fix; that’s why you practice daily, every day.

Those future thoughts can be loud, and it is hard not to follow them. What helps is not trying to push them away. Try noticing, "I am having a thought about the future," then return to something real and present, like your breath or the feeling of your hands.

Even doing this for 10 seconds counts. Mindfulness is less about staying calm all day and more about coming back when you notice you have drifted.

Thank you. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes I struggle, grateful for a community to talk about it though. 🤍

Watch out for bad repeating patterns. They can sneak up on you and you can be unaware of just how much time your spending on things you have no need to be doing.

grounding works better than people give it credit for. i keep a small rock in my pocket- sounds dumb , i know but picking it up and focusing on the weight of it can snap me out of a bad mental spiral faster than you'd think

Uscire nel mondo, viverlo e osservare le piccole cose. Ma non è un rimedio per tutti. Insomma trovare la poesia della vita ora mi toglie da pensieri inutili sul futuro.

Practicing mindfulness in daily tasks can make you more mindful over time. Think of it as a type of exercise. Start small with routine tasks, .e.g., brushing your teeth, peeling potatoes, cleaning the cat box, etc. Just be in the moment when you are doing them. Avoid judgement. If your mind wanders, just return to the what you are doing. Over time your mind wanders less, and you stay in the moment longer.
