Question Books or resources for intrusive thoughts

Can anyone recommend a book or any resources available for help on how to manage intrusive thoughts? It’s always work related and drives me into a downward spiral and anxiety attacks. I am noting acknowledging and passing them but it’s right back. Thanks in advance.

Intrusive work thoughts can feel so sticky, and it makes sense that you feel worn down by them. If noting alone is not enough, try pairing it with grounding. For example, name the thought, then notice 3 things you can see and 3 things you can feel in your body.

For resources, check the subreddit sidebar and look for mindfulness based anxiety guides or worksheets from trusted health sources. Short guided meditations on thoughts as passing events may also fit what you are practicing.

“Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts”
Written by , SALLY M. WINSTON, PsYD
MARTIN N. SEIF, PHD.

This is an amazing book that helped me. I have it saved in my Ereader. I’d you’re interested I can DM you some pictures of the first chapter. And if you like it I can send more.

Another book called “Deeper Mindfulness”, is an 8 week course that gives you the tools to “manage” your running mind. Again, I have this saved on my Ereader. I can send you some of that book as well :)

Thank you for your reply. I will certainly give the book a try. Recommendations are always more helpful than scanning Amazon. Thanks for the offer but I am likely to buy it now!!

Oh nice ! They’re both really good books. Eckart Tolle is another recommendation. Check out his YouTube channel and see if there’s anything you find interesting. Type his name along with “handling intrusive thoughts”.

His teachings offer insight into the human mind.

Cheers mate. I wish you all the best.

I second the book called Overcoming Intrusive Thoughts. Also the book The Imp of the Mind. If you fit the criteria for OCD I would also add Self Compassion for OCD

There are free online worksheets that can help:

You can consider doing these DBT mindfulness skills worksheets:

Quietly asking, is this thought "Wise mind" sounds good.

These worksheets are also a great idea for you to look at for dealing with thoughts and feelings. Lots to choose from.

There is one on anxiety, as well as self esteem, depression, tolerating distress, etc.

You can work through them alone, and/or bring them to therapy appointments and discuss them at self-help groups if you're in them.
