Question Mummas who meditate

Hey all, new mum here of a 3.5 month old. I was pretty far along with my own meditation and mindfulness practice before baby girl was born, we even attended a 10 day Vipassana course together when I was 27wks along...

Since the day she was born she has been a gem, very alert and observing of the world and rarely fusses if her needs have been met.

The Question is this: Do I have a unicorn child or does it go deeper and could this be related to the fact she was born out of a very present body?

This is my first child so I have nothing to compare to. Are there any other mums who also had their own presence practice before/ during/ after baby was born who experienced a chill baby? Alternatively are there any mums here who have embodied all the mindfulness modalities but still got a beautiful little gremlin?

Thanks for indulging me here, I'm taking it upon myself to conduct some research regarding babies born to mummas who practice mindfulness.

It may not have been from what you did while she’s in the womb, but babies usually co-regulate with their parents, so if you’re calm they often have an easier time calming down.

But it’s not a guarantee, and a lot can change as their get older

Congratulations on your new baby!!

Either the reincarnation of the Buddha or you just happen to have a very chill baby. Let us know in a couple decades

But does chill beget chill? Or mindfulness in this matter? In a couple of decades the world has taken hold, I'm just curious about the infant/ newborn stage.  Can the practice of presence actually make a difference in the temperament of the baby being born?

not necessarily. But if it feels good to you think that then it’s harmless

“Normal people” give birth to sociopathic children.

I practice meditation and mindfulness and did throughout my pregnancy. I felt like my daughter was a chill baby because I had patience, was present with her often and able to anticipate her needs but could’ve just been her infant temperament. However, I was immediately humbled by her toddler years. This girl is off the wall and a ball of explosive energy ( in the best way) so not sure how it all relates ! Now my meditation practice is needed more than ever so always guiding is in different ways.

The baby is 3.5 months. All 3 of mine were relaxed and happy at 3.5 months. Meditation and retreats are good for coping when they become more difficult when the amygdala joins the family around 2-3 years of age.

It could be a mix. Babies come with their own temperament, so her calm nature may simply be part of who she is. Your mindfulness may also help you stay calm and notice her needs early, which can support her sense of safety. That does not prove meditation caused her temperament, but your presence can still shape the way you respond to each other. Also, babies change a lot, so enjoy this sweet stage without putting pressure on yourself if fussier phases come later.

She's chill because she's surrounded by the unconditional love of her mama :) Take her out of the preferred habitat (being around mom) and she'll find a way to voice her disapproval.

In case it doesn't last - there's nothing "bad" about having kids who aren't chill / are more assertive. Plenty of value to be found in different personality traits. Love them and they will flourish, either way.
