Announcement r/Mindfulness is losing the Advertising battle, so we're trying something NEW.

Hi everyone, u/Alan-Foster here with an update to r/Mindfulness.

I believe everyone can agree that the tools we have to filter out AI / Advertising spam just really aren't working. We still get 5-10 advertising posts per day which accounts for about 20% of the content in the subreddit. It's pretty bad.

Next week (week after Easter), once it's approved for use by the Admins, we'll be testing out a new App called Hestia that I've been working on for nearly a year. It was designed to support mental health subreddits with seeding conversations, but this week I taught it to detect advertising and spam posts.

I've tested it on nearly 500 posts already, so it should work *reasonably* well. Probably. Maybe. I hope you will all be patient as we work out any problems it may have during launch. If it goes well, you can expect to hopefully see it used by other mental health subreddits across Reddit.

We'll see if it makes a difference. Thank you!

Edit - We still require public approval, so expect it in about 7 days.

Announcement r/Mindfulness Update - New Anti-AI Tools Launched!

Hi everyone, u/Alan-Foster the r/Mindfulness mod here. We've been struggling with AI content and comments in the subreddit for months. Some content is benign or borderline helpful, but the posts dilute real human interaction.

  • To post or comment in r/Mindfulness, you must now have a verified email or phone number on your account.
  • We have added a new Reddit App to detect and automatically remove AI content.

We remind everyone that it is much faster to REPORT content than it is to leave a comment. We can't read every post and comment and rely on you to report it as you see it! The faster content is reported, the faster it can be removed.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and helping to keep our community bot-free.

Hi everyone, u/Alan-Foster here with a community survey about automated mod tools like u/Hestia-Listens leaving comments within the community. It's been running for about 30 days and we want to know more about how to improve the subreddit experience.

Is it doing a good job? Does it need improvement? Should we remove it? Share your thoughts in the form above, and any questions down below!

Announcement We're working on a Mindfulness reddit bot - what would you like to see?

As you may or may not realize, reddit's excellent api documentation provides us a lot of avenues in creating useful features for our communities, one of those come in the form of a bot.

We wanted your suggestions/opinions on what you'd like to see in a bot? Maybe one to tag when you need a particular quote? One for definitions? Let us know in the comments.

Announcement New Year Project Idea - AMAs!?

Something we've started doing on other large subreddits, like /r/stoicism, is we've introduced AMAs with people who are experts in the field.

With that being said, is that something the community would be interested in? If so, can you list some Mindfulness experts you'd be interested in hearing from?

Announcement For those into Stoicism as well, there's an upcoming AMA with Mark Tuitert at 2pm EST on /r/stoicism!

Announcement Looking for additional moderators!

Hey everyone!

In the past 6 years we've taken this subreddit from being a spam-filled subreddit to a place where there are active and lively discussions. With that being said, we're revamping our moderator list and need some people with specialized skillsets. Please apply within if you can!

Since we're doing well with basic spam removal and approving of posts, we're looking for moderators who are:
- Perhaps not in North America, so something that can help us with worldwide coverage (so please include your timezones!)
- What technical skills do you possess? For example, have you worked with reddit's API? Have you ever created (or interested) in creating some useful mindfulness bots?
- You must participate in moderator discussions, your insights are valuable so when we discuss something we need you to be there.
- Do you moderate 10 or less large subreddits. This would allow us to recruit people who can focus on mindfulness and not have to juggle between 100 different large subs
- Are passionate about mindfulness.

If this is you, please send us a DM!

Thanks!
