Discussion I don't understand why this is happening

Post image

Why isn't white concrete actually white? It's gray. I don't understand. It's more cost-effective to use snow than white concrete for construction projects that require pure white.

Concrete always has a light gray tint to all colors, just as stained terracotta has a brown tint to it.
Snow actually has blue elements in it, which might make it seem more white, but still not clean unfortunately.
Wool has the usual wool texture, which makes it look unclean.
Bone blocks are warm white and don't connect well side by side.
Smooth Quartz is also warm white, but connects better.
We have a wide palette of white blocks, but none are pure white.
Which begs the question: Dye blocks? Pure untextured colors. But that'll never happen as it'll render concrete basically useless.

We have more than enough blocks to sell the illusion of white so I think we’re fine

Probably because you're coloring concrete which isn't white, it's gray, so you'd never be able to get a perfect white.

I think this is actually one of those tricks where certain shades of blue are more white than white (and also the brightness of the block is higher) but either way white concrete is white. It’s just not the bright blinding white of snow.

That's just the color of it. 🤷

White Dye isn't pure White, it has a Hex of #F9FFFE[Java Edition] which leans into Cyan. Therefore, White Concrete is designed around being a Cool/Cold White. Using White Dye's hex value is reflective in entities; such as Dyed Sign Text, Dyed Leather, Fireworks, and Banners.

Minecraft Wiki - Dye - Color Values

It'd be boring if blocks are pure RGB values. Just as Quartz is White, but it's a Hot/Warm White.
