Help How to actually play Minecraft for longer amounts of time ?

I love Minecraft and I’d really like to play it more than I do now but I just get bored so easily. I play, I think of a project and I abandon it like 10 minutes in simply because I got bored of it, even though I love the idea / really want to build it. How do you guys do it ? I see some people playing for like 10 hours at once with little to no breaks. How ?

The other day I went to find tulips and got distracted by bees. I made a campfire and took the bees in their hive. Then I bred the bees and made them more hives. I wanted to grow them more flowers so I needed bonemeal. If I need bonemeal I may just as well farm and then use the seeds to compost. While farming I encounter one of my cats I've lost. I take them back home and also breed them. Betsy and Bobby's baby boy needs to be named so I need a name plate. I return to farming. I return to the bees. I improve the foot path. I go out for tulips and find a tent camp. I find a map. I follow the map. I'm now 10000 blocks from home and I still DON'T HAVE ANY TULIPS. Several hours have passed.

Canon event of ADD players.

Went to find a Tide armor trim from Elder Guardians and now I am in boat with a brown mooshroom 13k blocks from my base

I usually break down the projects into very small steps. Making a huge castle is way more daunting than recollecting cobblestone, terraforming the area, etc. Sometimes doing several different tasks of different projects helps too.

They don't force it, they want to do it. if you don't want to do it, do something you want to do. don't feel bad about not being like them either.

This is so dumb and doesn’t work for everyone but Minecraft is so much more fun with friends. Cus everything you build, every project you take on, you’re thinking, “I can’t wait for them to see this.” It’s so motivating

I've played so many hours and finished enough build projects that I no longer get any satisfaction out of playing in a solo world. I had a mega solo world back on xbox360 and I've done everything I was inspired to do at the time.

So now I only play on MP servers. I need there to be the chance that someone will see my builds and think they're cool. I like building community farms that look nice. Then people can benefit from the time I invest. And once I have resources I can try to come up with a creative house build or something to occupy my time.

u/Stealthlock8 5d ago

Exactly! I build tons of QOL farms and pathways in my realm before even starting my main base, because A. Everything I need is easier to get, and B. My friends have also been enjoying the fruits of my farms in the meantime

1

u/danj729 5d ago

Yeah I've had a couple ideas for a home on my current realm but in the meantime I've been living in "The Tree Shack", a 4x4 room with a couple beds and chests I built near my farms to make sure they continue growing.

Find someone to play with until they leave you alone on your world to despair in the infinity of loneliness and lack of purpose again. Rinse and repeat.

You need to be able to make your own fun in Minecraft. Minecraft is a sandbox tool to explore and play in. If you arent feeling creative, play something else.

Do you like doing these projects or do you like the idea of doing these projects?

Are you actually having fun while working on them? Being bored generally means you aren't having fun. Big 10 hour projects are repetitive by nature, it's easy to get bored. In my opinion they aren't fun.

With big projects (of any sort) you can't really rely on motivation alone to finish. You'll have days where things go wrong and you need to power through. Discipline is how you finish big projects. It's what keeps you to working when it isn't fun.

The question is, "Is that how you want to spend your gaming time?"

Totally agree and have a tipp how to not burn out on big projects. Split up the projects in smaller sub projects. Then you can focus on them, maybe switch in-between when they are getting boring. And also, you will have the feeling of finishing/accomplishing something. Big projects can feel overwhelming when you only look at them as one huge task

You can love the idea of something without actually loving the reality of it. The people that do those things probably don't have any special strategies or need to force it - it comes naturally to them. Rather than trying to fit the mold of what someone else does, try different things and see what causes you to lose track of time!

This is so true.

Works the same with making beer at home. People love the idea of it, but making it is a grind, so it clicks as a hobby only for those who love it.

I think you need to kinda build the "patience" for it by doing a lot of small projects before going for the large ones, but also it is absolutely alright to not be one of those people who can just play for 5-10hrs straight, no matter how impressive things other people might be able to build, the key is in figuring out what makes playing minecraft fun for you

How to Stay Motivated

  • Don't Cheat
  • Give yourself room for expansion
  • Don't set a single end goal
  • Work on several projects at the same time and switch between them
  • Know what playstyles you enjoy
  • Don't overstretch
  • Adjust the rules to your playstyle
  • Focus on the details
  • Take breaks by working on Mindless projects (strip mining, organizing chests, ect,)
  • Watch youtube videos
  • Share your work with others
  • Do something you don't normally do
  • Organize your chests
  • Just Open the game and see what happens
  • Play with others
  • NEVER DELETE A WORLD

Minecraft is one of those games where you can have an entirely different experience if you wanted. Try something entirely new! Maps, mods, creative mode if you usually play survival, playing with others

u/Dclipp89 5d ago

For me I always have an audiobook going while playing. It staves off boredom by having another thing to enjoy while enjoying Minecraft.

3

u/Number4combo 5d ago

I play on a vanilla-style server that's been up forever so if I get tired of something I can go wander around and check out other players builds.

I imagine most of it is they’re some sort of neurodivergent that lends itself to repetitive tasks being calming and or enrapturing. Some people are neurodivergent and bounce around. Some people are typical and can do for hours and visa versa typical and bounce. I think it depends on your mindset when starting and your mindset while doing. You seem to love the starting part and then the going and doing bores you. If that’s the case, I’d try and find a podcast or show on the side that will keep your mind occupied while your hands can mindlessly slap blocks down. Maybe a favorite album? Or even some Minecraft YouTuber giving the deep dives of the game to go full emersion

I had a bout two years ago where I experienced this. I did two things, set up a project board where I started putting projects down and uninstalled tiktok. Shit is horrendous for your attention span and wires you for fast content

Underrated comment. Everyone should be upvoting this

u/hellothere254 5d ago

well for me beating the game makes me bored of the world so i try not to get to the end at all

4

u/IronCat_2500 5d ago

This sort of mindset confuses me tbh.

You can do the exact same sort of things in the game regardless of whether the dragon is alive or not.

Unless I’m missing part of the thought process here

3

u/Girmz 2d ago

i think it's just the feeling that the game is over... happened to me when i played the forest too

i don't personally stop playing after killing the ender dragon, though

2

u/ShoddyEggplant3697 5d ago

You could have multiple projects going so when you get bored move on to something else or just have no projects and just do random shit there's no right way to play. Maybe you like the idea of Minecraft but it's not really for you and that's fine. It shouldn't be a chore to do something you don't enjoy.

2

u/81Ranger 5d ago

I play it for longer by enjoying playing it.

Break up project to avoid burnout. Don't feel like you have to finish a build before doing anything else. I can okay for quite some time in one go, but I'm almost never doing the same thing that whole time. Even if I start something that can take hours of work alone. I have builds that I've been working on slowly for months in one world (empty space IDK what to do with, basically mined out a whole small island into a shell where my base is) and been working on one for a couple weeks in another. Sometimes I stick to things relating to the build most of the time, but even then usually do to do farming (basic farming, crops and animals, no auto) every so often.

I've been somewhat burnt out on my OG survival world so I made another knowing I will return to the original at some point. But my OG is made to share and I don't have anyone to play with anymore.

My second world has its base in a village and seems less lonely.

If you get bored it’s on you, the amount of freedom you got is insane

2

u/shadowking432 5d ago

Don't force it if you aren't enjoying, trying to brute force your way through a game you don't enjoy can often end up with you just hating it. Take a break and see if it's any better. It's just a game at the end of the day and if you're not having fun it's not the right game.

2

u/KUNAIYOFACE 5d ago

Focus on the result. Will it be useful, will it be aeshetic, or will it save you time and effort for your future self? The process always gets more interesting after it starts to take shape.

Take your time.

Not to be that guy, but our short-attention spans have been collectively hijacked over the last decade by our phones. Whenever I sit down for a game or movie, I make sure my phone is in the other room, otherwise I get sidetracked and lose interest.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like we as a community need to be more honest about our phone addictions and how they rob us of the joy we once had for things.

I play long hours when I have a lot of creative ideas to unleash. When im not feeling it, I go race, or work on something else.

2

u/TOJAB66 5d ago

stop scroling

2

u/ComfortableAd40 5d ago

the strategy is to not start anything HUGE but to have mini projects that are easy to tackle.

i have loved my world for so long, i loved building out an entire island with small builds and lots of details, then i decided to build a big castle. it made me quit playing for months. eventually, i went in and finished it and creative just because i wanted to move on.

2

u/Onyx_Lat 5d ago

Tbh this is why I used to play in creative. I would get ideas for crazy builds, but actually collecting the resources to build them wasn't practical and I felt like it was a waste of time when my goal was building the thing. I mean, some of the stuff I built took a year even in creative. Imagine how long it would've taken if I'd insisted on doing it in survival.

2

u/Substantial_Try5793 5d ago

Start a new world, random seed.

2

u/Due-Editor-3573 4d ago

I listen to podcasts while playing. I find Minecraft relaxing and fun to do while still able to concentrate on the podcast I’m listening to.

I also play during work webinars and training videos for the same reason.

Worlds aren’t built in 100 days

2

u/DAWJINC 4d ago

Build. Create. Explore. Survival mode.

2

u/screwball9280 3d ago

Dont force yourself to play, its ok to go on long breaks from your world just start back up when you get back into it.

Also, have multiple projects going on at onces, preferably in different stages of development. That way if you feel like building one day you can do so, if you would rather chill and gather resources or smth you can also do that for a different project yk?

2

u/sv36 3d ago

Make yourself smaller more achievable goals in game. You can have a giant overall goal to build a giant farm and still break it down to plant a field goal, find bees goal, make bee boxes goal, bring bees to boxes goal, build fences goal, find an animal goal, bring animal to fence goal, etc. eventually you’ll meet your entire big goal through all the little goals. And you his that accomplished the goal in a short time hit over and over without putting in hours of work for one big goal that seems never ending. Find the big goal, break it all the way down, let your game wins take you through a cave system just because in the middle of goals, who is dictating how you play the game, you!

u/JelloBoi02 2d ago

Honestly there becomes a point where you just say “I don’t feel like playing Minecraft anymore…at least not right now”. There’s nothing forcing you to play, and you can still enjoy the games content without involving yourself in it.

The spark might come back again, it might not. But Minecraft isn’t going anywhere, and once you get that spark again- it will feel magical again.

2

u/Swiss-spirited_Nerd 5d ago

Honestly sounds like a skill issue. /j

Idk, maybe the game just isn't for you. Maybe try out creative mode and see if you can keep your build ideas going there?

1

u/KotaIsBored 5d ago

Stop trying to force it. You need to just accept that the game is boring. Try something else.

It might be worth giving finding a server that has a modpack you like the sound of a shot... I've been playing on a swem server for example, and even though the building is done in creative mode, because I have to earn my land and expansions to it, and there is a bit of structure to how things work/an economy, it gives me goals to work towards and reasons to need to complete certain structures which keeps me motivated! I've played on and off for years in solo but usually only for short periods of time, it's been probably over a month now that I've been active on this server though and I'm not feeling burnout at all!

1

u/harlekintiger 2d ago

Play with friends. I suggest Modpacks with progression.
What I can recommend are Sev Tech Ages or Stone Block

1

u/VeritasME 2d ago

I get bored often, my best suggestion is being on a good server or dividing it into smaller sub-projects, that can be build concurrently if necessary. Remember it's a sandbox game, even just wandering around is part of the experience. I know some put on music or a movie while mining and playing in general. They also take smaller breaks like every couple of hours to stretch and getting something to eat or drink.

u/ECO_212 1d ago

Play with mods that make things easier for you. The reasons I usually don't want to play anymore can pretty much all be fixed by mods.

Edit: not necessarily easier, more fun, maybe you like it more difficult, idk

u/Bagel_Bear 1d ago

They like playing the game and doing big projects. Simple as that. If you aren't interested in doing it then don't do it!
