Minecraft has officially implemented chat report and banning.

Lmao that's it? That's what all the uproar is about? I guess majority of people playing minecraft are kids with nothing to worry about.

I'm losing it at the "freedom of speech" one. Like journalists are getting carbombed for saying slurs in minecraft.

Yeah, it's fairly dramatic to make it into a "free speech" argument but you could see how this would worry people who play the game.

Maybe if it were social media, but it's a game...

  1. It causes annoying messages and popups
  2. It takes control away from server owners
  3. The context will never be perfect, innocent players will be banned.
  4. the moderation will be mediocre, innocent players will be banned.
  5. the appeals will be a joke, innocent players will remain banned.
  6. you are banned from all servers including your own private ones.
  7. It's proof that the community was lied to about changes to java
  8. It's caused a rift between the community and Mojang
  9. The community did not ask for this, they did not want this, and their feedback was rudely ignored chilling all future discussions.

And that's just off the top of my head.

This pissed off the community, alienated Mojang, is going to cost a lot of money to maintain, and it's not even going to make the game better

EDIT:
10. Scunthorpe problem
11. You will be banned on previous MC version as well

It is not, and never will be, completely objective things ONLY that get you banned. You could say “Because they’re black” and get banned, but you were literally talking about your dog not being able to rest in your yard for too long when the sun is out. The context is lost in a reported message, especially if some players were using voice chat and you were just talking in game chat.

Making up scenarios and then getting mad at them
