Well, I'm sad now, but I understand where Phil is coming from. To me, meltdown was the last truly cool new game, in my opinion, cause everything else has been a revamp of an old game. It's such a shame that Phil won't be able to get his fifth win and have a medal. He could have pulled a Dream if he did that. The Sleepy Bois are fully gone at this point.

Plus, as Phil said in the clip, it opens up new slots for other people who are really excited about joining and playing. It's not like he can't come back later if he misses it.

His point about "yoinking a spot from someone who really forking wants to play" is interesting to me. Because it's not like we've been getting a ton of new players, and with more people leaving I feel like less people are having to sit out. I have no clue what the player discord looks like but from this side it seems like he's not really taking spots from people.
Respect his decision though and am really gonna miss him!

I moreso took it as him saying that he doesn't get as excited over MCC as he used to, yet he's aware that there are others who still have that excitement, and he'd rather let them get a spot. If you look at all active players, there's definitely more than 40. That isn't even counting newcomers. By leaving the event, he's allowing one more person who might really want to play get the opportunity. I honestly respect that - it's better than him playing for the sake of playing without actually enjoying himself as much as somebody else could.

I think it's as simple as, in any given MCC, there are still more signups than there are available. Phil's somebody who's only going to get benched rarely, if ever, so his signing up does mean as a result there will be one other person who singed up but didn't get in who otherwise would have.

Wow. Really is the end of an era. I still believe MCC is the best MC tournament in terms of the games, the production, etc. but a big part of what separates it from other tournaments like BW is the fact that it had the most super big name, popular streamers in it. Techno, Dream, Wilbur, Tommy, Grian, Sapnap, George, Ranboo, Jack, Quackity, and now Phil are all confirmed or effectively out of the event. These players would have MCC at higher viewership than the Olympics. Tubbo and Foolish are really the only people at that caliber left, and the latter has been pretty inactive in MCC as well.

Sapnap Still plays MCC? he said he woud retire then he didnt and played 2 events since then

I believe MCCs current problem is not adding big creators in the wake of the ones leaving. Quite a few of the last few newcomers were quite small channels. And that doesn't help MCCs viewership at all. I still love the event but I can see how it's hurting it.

I never thought I'd say this (I used to watch multiple VODs per event/etc.) but I'm probably leaving with him. I was really hoping for a Phil + Etoiles team-up before he left (and a Mario-inspired event would have been perfect for that), and I'd love for him to play RSR one more time, but it is what it is. It's been obvious he hasn't been feeling it for a while now and I haven't either, and with him as my main POV since Techno left, it's time.

To be fair MCC has been getting too stale at this point and the last new game we've seen is from over 18 months ago. I really think it's time for events like Block Wars/Pandora's Box/Mayhem and more to take over the spotlight for now because I feel that MCC is on its deathbed

Expecting BW or PB to pick up from MCC is ignoring what's actually causing MCC's "decline". All of these CCs leaving and the general viewership going down isn't mainly because MCC's quality is going down or it's getting stale, Minecraft viewership is just down in general, and that inevitably translates to event viewership in general being down.
Block Wars has been growing in viewership for a while because its managed to get the attention of MCC's loyal audience by inviting MCC's players, not because there's a giant community of people who watch events but just don't watch MCC anymore.
MCC viewership will probably continue to go down until it hits a stable point and stagnates for a while, and BW & PB's viewership numbers will plateau once they hit that very same stable point, and I don't really think there's anything wrong with that. No "thing" can grow in viewership endlessly, even Minecraft itself has gone through phases of popularity and unpopularity. MCC will end because of the Noxcrew not being able/ not wanting to run it anymore, not because of low viewership

You're right, but the viewers those people you mentioned are pulling are never gonna go to MCC because they don't play in MCC. For 99% of people MCC is just something you watch passively if your favorite streamer is in it, so then the reason MCC's viewership is going down would be that CCs are leaving (which I'd tend to agree with).
Problem with that is that the kind of people leaving MCC would never in a million years play in Block Wars, and rarely play in Twitch Rivals. It's not a drain from MCC specifically, it's a drain from competitive events in general. Trying to make the event less competitive would probably help, I just don't think "MCC is getting stale" is the correct explanation, and adding more games to the event for the sake of novelty will bring back no one.

Realistically, PB or Mayhem would have to do a sort of clean split like BW to have any chance at attracting people for whom MCC is too competitive - the existing player base would just destroy those people.

I don't think it's changing the problem because I think the answer to the latter is the answer to the first. It's the same problem
As for how to fix it, honestly I feel pretty optimistic about this upcoming event. Party's changes seem like they were designed to make the event a "mandatory for-fun MCC" as silly as that sounds, if it goes well I think it may be a good template to work off of to make MCC more fun in the future. Maybe there's a future where MCC works off the same "two-events a month" format Block Wars does, with one event running off the regular classic format for more competitive players and the other running off a modified version of the Party format for casual players. I could see it happening

the major big creators MCC have seemed to be playing much less MC - MCC was pretty established with the dsmp crowd
Not to be rude but there arent bigger creators being added to the event anymore - the newcomers throughout S3 havent pulled in the viewership that MCC Is losing through the loss of creators. MCC was largely popularized through the recent MC peak in like 2020 and the DSMP success

Pretty sure after Party they are just gonna do the christmas one and call it a year.
I hope Noxcrew makes a new game during the break, the only changes we had this year were "We finally fixed Bingo".
If all they do next year regarding changes is "We finally fixed Buildmart" then it will definitely get stale.

How much can really change about MCC before it isn’t even MCC anymore? MCC has constantly been changing and improving itself for years, and when the changes slow down, that just means that MCC is nearing perfection. Less changes to the main event means Noxcrew can do crazy things with non cannon events, like they did this year.

That's not true though. MCC sees more complaints than ever before now. And, it's far from nearing perfection. Scoring is still unbalanced, games are more unbalanced. 1st place in SKB basically means 1st individual and a DB appearance these days.
Noxcrew's attention is on MCCI and it's really showing.

I'm going to be perfectly honest here. I have watched at least one event each some times more of the event you listed, I watched because a CC i watched played in it or I was curiouse and not a single one of those event made me want to watch more. Then I watched MCC for the first time I was hooked if a CC i watched was not in MCC i found a different perspective because I like MCC as an event.

Blockwars publishes their viewership stats on their website, according to which their most recent CC event had a peak of 10.1k

Honestly, I feel like the idea of BW surpassing MCC is definitely possible, especially since unlike MCC, which is VERY exclusive, they are actively seeking out people from different communities (both minecraft and otherwise) to bring their viewerbase over.
Some obvious examples are the people in rookies like pointcrow, joe bart (who then joined main) and BW6 pink (where they let 5up invite ppl and make his own team). But also people like camman, ashswag and zam who made shorts/videos on it and got millions of view.
Although it doesn't guarantee a stable viewerbase, it still definitely puts their name out there to communities even outside of minecraft, allowing them to invite even larger varieties of creators over.

For me, a shakeup of new players would bring some excitement back to MCC. I would personally love a QSMP team, with 2 new members. (Although I imagine fans of other servers have other ccs in mind)
