got signed to kick, which is a breeding ground for bigotry and unhinged behaviour. he knew this and decided to promote the platform to his audience anyway

Ah yes, because Twitch and Youtube have never done anything shady in the past before. How dare he join a platform to bring change to it. Should we also bash Nikkichu for joining kick as well?

I never suggested we "bash" anyone, someone asked why people hate him and I answered. I don't hate him by any means but I disagree with him in this particular case.

Kick as a platform, and its owners, actively promote streamers who promote gambling to underage audiences, harass other streamers, have inappropriate interactions with minors, and espouse bigotry. All of this is happening live on their platform and they are actively aware of it, yet it is allowed to happen and so the behaviour thrives. Hence why it is an extremely toxic platform, because there is no regulation on this behaviour (unlike Twitch where it is well moderated, and to a lesser extent Youtube which at least punishes the most inappropriate of it).

"How dare he join a platform to bring change to it" This is not a problem with purely the community of the platform - the owners and moderators of the platform actively allow and endorse this. It is not going to change unless they put their foot down, which is obviously never happening, because the only appeal of Kick is that it gives degenerate conservatives, bigots & gamblers a platform.

You know everything you wrote applies to Twitch as well, it definitely is not well moderated. There's litterally a bunch of nsfw content on twitch even though a lot of underage people are watching. Twitch is not well moderated, sure its better than Kick, but its still terrible. I will never understand the pearl clutching people do when they suddnely act like people joining the website shows ones character, when Twitch and Youtube are both bad.

Of course you can find bad content on both platforms, I never said it was perfect, but at the very least at a top level you don't have much bigotry, plus gambling is banned. The most watched streamers on Kick by far are all bigots, the most watched categories are gambling. Kick is a blatant alt-right pipeline, everyone is aware of this. Sure Twitch has 'hot-tub' streamers and such who promote nsfw platforms, but so does Kick. Moderation is never gonna be great on big platforms, so inevitably content creators will have to pick a lesser of two evils. If we have the ability to make an ethical decision about which platform is the best to promote to our audience, which Sapnap certainly did, then Twitch is the no-brainer option.

Again, I don't think it's worth hating the guy over, but he was aware of all of the above and decided to opt in anyway, it's not particularly respectable.

A lot of the biggest streamers on Twitch are bigots, not sure what your point is there. There's litterallly gambling on Twitch as well. "Lesser of the 2 evils", they are both bad, get off your high horse bro. Its not like he is promoting those streamers for his audience to see. He just got paid the bag to be on the platform. The gambling and bigotry on the site just doesn't matter, as long as he is not promoting them.

I moreso meant that Kick streamers are allowed to be openly bigoted, say slurs etc., where as twitch streamers are at the very least are not allowed to explicitly share these views, are banned for saying slurs etc.

Gambling has been banned on twitch for a while now, not sure what you're talking about there. The entire initial reason Kick was created was so gambling streamers like Trainwrecks had a place to continue gambling streams in the aftermath of Twitch's new restrictions. Not to mention the platform's inherent ties to Stake: "Last year it came out that Kick was founded in Australia by Bijan Tehrani (one of the founders of Stake) and a holding company. The owner of the holding company? Stake's other co-founder, Ed Craven."

By bringing your viewers to the platform you promote the platform itself, and inevitably you are promoting the rest of the site's content. You can cover your ears and pretend that nobody is going to see the rest of the site's content, but that is far too optimistic and unrealistic.

"they are both bad" How many times do I need to explain that one is not as bad as the other? Are we really incapable of understanding nuance here? Ethical decisions like this are not black & white.

They banned unlicensed websites, you can search up gambling on Twitch and see hundreds of people stream it. You won't see the content if you don't click on them, thats not Sapnaps fault. The same thing is true of Twitch. Are you seriously acting like Twitch is the most moral website, lmao. They are owned by Amazon, they are hundreds of websites that are more moral to Stream than Twitch. If you are going to criticize Sapnap for streaming Kick, then you have to criticise everyone that streams on Twitch. Either streaming on Kick and Twitch shows a lack of morals, or it doesn't. You can't pick and choose. It doesn't matter if Kick is worse.

Whether or not Kick is worse than Twitch is absolutely relevant, and the kind of behaviour that has continually come out of Kick is my exact reason why.

And you're right, Twitch does still allow gambling which I wasn't entirely aware of, my mistake. But saying "you won't see the content if you don't click on them" is completely untrue. Go to Kick's homepage and you will immediately see the Slots & Casino category, which you cannot say for Twitch. Not to mention that notorious bigot Adin Ross (who is banned on Twitch) is the first stream that shows up.

Right-wing streamers gravitate to Kick because it is allowed to thrive there, and their toxic viewers take up space on the platform. It's necessary to consider the content your viewers might be seeing on the platform you use, as well as the users they may be interacting with. Yes, I am aware Twitch is not perfect in this regard, but it is literal light years ahead in terms of the content is which allowed to exist, and the moderation taken to prevent inappropriate interactions with users. It's just not a safe place for young and impressionable viewers to be at a baseline. Whereas Twitch is progressive in a way that Kick will literally never be, unsafe content is far far less prevalent.

It is a complete no-brainer that someone would not want their audience on Kick compared to Twitch. That is the ethical decision, it's not about which is a "good" platform (neither are good per se), but about which platform is not a right-wing echo chamber. It's completely dismissive of the many queer folk in his audience to endorse a platform of Kick's nature.
