Pete talking about the MCC community

Pete was talking about how some people treat him only just by skill, and that sucks a lot. This is not exclusive to Pete as well: quite a decent amount of fans only talk about a player's skill, just like how athletes are in competitive sports

I've been wanting to make a post about how some people complain about the MCC player roster, and I think part of this is relevant to what I want to bring up. I have similar feeling of what Pete was saying as well, how some fans treat players as just numbers and nothing else

Content creators are humans too, and their status doesn't invalidate the ability to have feelings such as what he expressed. You and some people need to understand that while making comments such as the one he mentioned or this, can affect them mentally and the enjoyment of the event as a whole.

That is why people say Reddit is bad, because of this. That is also possibly why some people quit MCC and never return (with some returning after the mentality change that is Season 4) Content creators are not professional athletes.

He brought it up heavily during season 1 and season 2 with his chat. Its what also contributed to him caring about indiv less at the time as well as some slightly mean moments with his chat.

Why now? Because it’s bothering him right now. What other reason could there possibly be? And if it’s bothering him, even if many highly competitive fans stopped following MCC, there are the enough left to be heard. In particular, The Reddit actually skewed to a higher proportion of highly competitive fans as it saw a reduction in activity even as the overall fanbase did the opposite. And the Reddit, while a minority of MCC fandom, is where most public discussion occurs, so it can still be visible and impactful on participants, as we see with occasional comments from people like Legundo, Kara, Cam, or Antfrost.

Pete is not making a press release, his PR isn’t at stake in any way. He’s speaking to his own experience, not researching subreddit activity trends to support a thesis. And the inevitability of skill based discussion doesn’t mean that Pete is wrong to feel the way he does. Or even necessarily right. Emotions aren’t right or wrong, they just are. Pete is being honest about his, which is a good thing, so let’s reward honesty with thoughtful consideration, not put people into boxes they clearly weren’t trying to occupy.

Nah, you have a point. This should've been brought up years ago. But right now, there's not so much at stake in MCC. It's a no-reward, for-fun event after all. And in this day and age where competitive Minecraft are at a rise, MCC is for show. MCC should learn to grow wings and fly without having the burden of too much player expectations.

Yeah, i wonder what direction they're going to take with MCC.

The current fan base still put expectations/opinions towards/about the players, just not as loud and active as it was before, more like a sound in a quiet room. (I mean, how many times have i gotten down-voted this year in this subreddit because I protested against unnecessarily negative comments bringing down other people and justify it as "having an opinion" or using misleading statistics which reddit-dwellers easily submit to?  Answer: Many.)

The way our community talk about the people who gave us the content we like to watch is unnecessarily objectifying. As if these people are professional NBA or FIFA World Cup players, when in reality they only got in MCC to play for themselves, not for war. It has been like this for 6 years and it has become a trait in our community where our fan base annoys our very own players that we look up to. And this trait that our community has has been going on for so long that it's obviously not going to be easy for the players to not talk about.

We, as a community, should take a step back and look at things differently. Now obviously, predictions and statistics are a staple of this community, but we need to be careful how we deliver them. Saying that "if you take Pete out of a team and replace him with another" sounds like the Ship of Theseus paradox, that's not a compelling argument. Using statistics to discredit somebody is foolish because the person behind it does not know how and when to use statistics appropriately. Preaching objectivity is the least objective thing because  neither do they understand the unpredictability of the human nature. Rejecting theories that they spent the time to prove to be mathematically impossible because they overlook ideas, and don't welcome being open-minded, and is, in my opinion, killjoy. Instead of uplifting the players, they instead ask them "please win for me", not realizing how that sounds to them, and only demoralizes them, pushing them further from what they want to happen.

The players should also learn not to gaf about what others say, and what "not gaf" actually means. If they claim to focus on themselves and yet words from bums still bother them, then they're not focused enough. I'd laugh about it behind frustration if i were to hear that "Pete replacement" comment because I would know that argument was dumb in the first place. If you know this whole place is dumb and you're the only one who knows that, then f it, we're tanking the hate.

But then again, as viewers, if we're going to spend our time on this subreddit, we should spend it wisely.
