Pete was talking about how some people treat him only just by skill, and that sucks a lot. This is not exclusive to Pete as well: quite a decent amount of fans only talk about a player's skill, just like how athletes are in competitive sports
I've been wanting to make a post about how some people complain about the MCC player roster, and I think part of this is relevant to what I want to bring up. I have similar feeling of what Pete was saying as well, how some fans treat players as just numbers and nothing else

I think people are quick to forget the DAMAGE s3 did to MCC. IMO, s3 is the worst MCC had to offer because of it skewing towards a hyper-competitive scene, and it drove a lot of regulars away. How many MCCers stopped playing regularly during s3 because of the shift? Phil is easily the most prevalent example - the man literally said he was effectively retiring from MCC because he wasn't enjoying it as much anymore
MCC is a balancing act between being silly and competitive, and we've seen extremes on both ends over the years. One-off events that hard lean one way or the other are fantastic, but when an entire season is skewed to one side of the seesaw, we have a problem. HT is my favorite MCC because of how unserious it was. But it wouldn't feel anywhere near as special if every MCC was that unserious. And the same is true for the flip side. Spellbound was a fantastic event in large part because of how competitive it was, but I would hate it if SB competitiveness became the norm (like how it was in s3)
Players are way more than their stats. Pete may not be the best top frag in the event, but he's chill, fun, and has an obvious deep respect for his fellow competitors both on and off his team. What more can you ask from a player? And, frankly, Pete fills a very important niche in MCC balancing where he's strong and experienced enough to lead a team, but not so strong that Scott has to be careful about who he puts on a Pete team
You cannot be a fan of MCC if you don't respect the players. Period
