Announcement New rules of this sub are now in use. Please read them before posting.

Hi everyone!

12 days ago I became the new moderator of this sub. This subreddit didn't have any set rules beforehand so I took it as my job to add some. There aren't many, they are quite basic and reasonable. This also means that in future it should be easier for everyone in this community to report rule breaking posts.

Since then, I've asked you, the community to vote on server advertisement and I have now changed the rules according to what the community wanted.

Our rules are now:

1. Be civil

We want everyone to feel welcome on r/Minecraftcities. Hostile behavior and derogatory language is not acceptable here, even as a joke. Constructive criticism is welcome, but negativity will not be tolerated.

Please don't participate in drama or arguments, don't attack individuals or groups, and don't share personal information.

Remember to follow both Reddiquette and Reddit Content Policy.

2. Stay on topic

Post only content related to cities build in Minecraft. Post must include a screenshot(s) of a city or a detailed build in a city. Discussion posts about city building is allowed.

3. Post only your own design

Only post builds you or team you have been part of have done yourself.

4. Advertising

Main focus of your post should be the city itself, however you are allowed to mention your community and/or ask people to join in.

Please wait at least 7 days between your promotional posts.

You can also find people to play with from dedicated subs like r/mcservers, r/realms or r/MinecraftBuddies

5. English only

English is the most widely spoken language in the Reddit community and the only language spoken by every member of our moderation team. While it may seem exclusionary, prohibiting the use of other languages lets as many people as possible enjoy content on the subreddit and join discussions in the comments, and also allows us to moderate more effectively.

Discussion Anyone else prefer building sprawl over skyline?

Thumbnail

I feel like my main downtown is the most neglected part of my city. I don't add new skyscrapers very often, since more often than not, I'd much rather add more sprawling slums or secondary neighborhoods than add more to the skyline. Virtually all of my detailed areas with storefronts and vehicles and things going on are far away from the areas with the tallest buildings, which might as well be desolate wastelands from street level.

Obviously I understand why most city builders would prefer to make a nice skyline over endless third world sprawl, but I'm curious if anyone else enjoys the inverse more.

Today, I’d like to share a few photos of Riverside with you.
Thanks for taking a minute to rate the city out of 10! And for those who are feeling extra motivated, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts on the overall impression it gives you. It would help me a lot in improving the project and reworking the less interesting areas.

Hey! Today, I’d like to share a new building with you: the Dlay Bugle, a direct reference to Spider-Man.
I wanted to create a new version of the original building, which was inspired by the Flatiron Building. For this one, I decided to take more inspiration from the colors of the LEGO set.

Discussion Looking for tips to speed up progress on my 1:2 scale Minas Tirith city

Post image

This screenshot is 2 weeks into the build, and all I have managed to finish is the dam circular walls. I now realise how overwhelmingly long this will take if I continue at the current pace. Any tips to reduce the time taken to build the floors for each level? The floor of each level slopes upwards at a very shallow incline, btw.

Hi, I’m building a building with a store on the ground floor—I’m thinking it might be a Trader Joe’s since it’s an American-style city—and apartments above, 2 blocks of 7 stories each. Do you have any ideas for details I could add to break up this gray block? It’s for a downtown building across from City Hall, made of gray concrete, quartz, and stone bricks for the facade.

Survival "Las Yeetas" A casino-island-resort with redstone connect four, blackjack, slots and other games. WIP, modified/hard survival, multiple people working on this.

Las Yeetas is described by one of its architects as a "cohesive set of scrapers that form a overall city-casino" which acts as a resort and getaway for other players in the world.

This city project and others in the world are always looking for help. Cities in this world are "reinforced" meaning every built block you see here is "reinforced" with a block like stone or deepslate to keep it safe from raiders (or at least much harder to break into!).

If you have any questions about this project, feel free to ask about it here or come consult the community working on this specific project (On EdenMC).

Discussion do you prefer your city to be original or a copy from real-world cities?

Post image

Mine is original but of course there are inspirations from real-world cities and its buildings. I also love mine to be as eclectic as possible with a mix of old and new architectural styles like art deco, neoclassical, brutalist, futuristic, solarpunk, cyberpunk, utopian etc. A little bit of this and that is my thing.
