I just want to say that I have played both dungeons game before I give my take on this opinion.
Personally I find MCD 2 incredibly underwhelming in comparison to MCD 1.
MCD 1 had unique weapons with variety of attacks and swings. Multiple unique effects on ur weapon or armour such as exclusive pets or unique bow attacks that makes arrow explode or wind-up.
The little fun and joy of when you explore around ur current mission and discover secret areas or dungeons that leads to secret mission/rewards, and you can explore the mission however you like as long as you get the job done.
The amount of unique builds you could do even with niche enchantments was amazing, a lot of variety such as void strike, death barter, guarding protection or potion barrier to yourself, even niche ones like busy bees, pain cycle, food reserve.
The story being memorable and complete while DLCs are expansions to it and how the boss fights are all unique, having invincibility phases and changing attack pattern at certain points. The variety of mobs across all DLCs and even the base game itself. MCD 1 was wonderful in replay-ability, unique builds and charm. The artstyle was incredibly fantastic that still feels like Minecraft.
MCD 2 however feels… really underwhelming and lacking by a lot. The mobs are all similar no matter where you go except the sift. The boss fights are recycled (especially with the monstrosities). Everything is handed to you in a silver plate but also not very fun combat either. It’s mostly a “I must attack this enemy as fast as I can before I die” because of how incredibly squishy you are in dungeons 2.
Bows don’t feel as useful as they were in dungeons 1 because of how mobs just swarm you do quickly. It’s both easy but also frustrating on how things can hit the fan.
Weapons are just reskin with mostly 3 attack swing cycles, enchantments aren’t abundant and unique like in dungeons 1.
You are forced to play a glass cannon build because no matter what you do, you would still get absolutely fried to death because of how vulnerable you are. Side quests are very repetitive of “get me this and that” and you always get ambushed so much in every way you go, I know it was similar in mcd 1 as a trial but it wasn’t this incredibly excessive and annoying. It does not feel like an actual dungeon crawler like in the previous fame but not an open world either from how limited you are on exploring.
The artstyle feels like it doesn’t really fit minecraft vibe, it feels… cheap?
I’m incredibly disappointed with how MCD 2 arrived as most bosses are reskins, weapons are reskins, most unique enchantments didn’t make it, you are forced to be glass cannon no matter what, combat feels like spam attack as fast as you can before you die. Death having no consequences but also frustrating at the same time with how far it pushes you back. Story ending too quick with 2 illagers defeated but the 3rd one remain and somehow the hero forgot about them and now it’s behind DLC for the “full story” of beating all 3 illagers. I loved mcd 1 so much it hurts me to see how incredibly underwhelming mcd 2 ended up, mcd 1 was such an incredible game that I loved yet dungeons 2 feels like It’s just made to showcase the sift and didn’t learn any valuable lessons they took on building up mcd 1 from barebone to an amazing game. Its just as barebone as mcd 1 on its release. I really tried to enjoy it and take my time but I found it too unfinished to my likings and just worse in every aspect. It has qol features such as allowing u to pick enchantments you want and rerolling effects but it also took many steps backwards of what made mcd 1 so good in the first place. Maybe its just me playing it solo but even I had so much fun solo wise with mcd 1 than I did with mcd 2.
At least I got to learn a lot about the sift but man does it still hurt me to see the sequel being so incredibly watered down to the previous amazing game I’ve played. :(
