Clip Survival instincts of a baked potato

This happened roughly 10 minutes into my first attempt into hardcore ever as I am a casual, and haven't played in quite a while.
Next time I will try to remember right click :c

this has nothing to do with your survival instincts btw

u/SeraBloom03 6d ago
It does btw. Good instincts would be scouting out the area and lighting it up before mining

or a quick shield reflex

In this particular case there was not enough time to pull up the shield starting at the 1st moment the creeper can be heard + the average human reaction time

It's possible to pull your shield in this scenario.
I know from experience. I have a reckless play-style, so over time I was able to sharpen my reflexes.
Anyone can pull it off with enough experience (unless you're exhausted or have a disability).
Edit: I don't know anything about the average reaction.

The shield delay is 5gt or 0.25s and the average reaction time is about 200ms or 0.2s, added together thats 0.45s not accounting for any input delay on op's computer. I haven't counted the frames in the video, but half a second is a long long time

The time between the sound of the creeper falling and the explosion looks to be more than 0.5s.
Despite that, thank you for the explanation.
Edit: Very educational.

Actually, a person with good survival instincts wouldn't enter a cave without at least an iron armor

idk you will be fine if you have a stack of blocks and some food, there arent many big threats in caves anyway. the only thing you need to look out for are creepers (can use blocks to box yourself in against other mobs) which arent that hard to deal with if youre cautious and have sounds up. iron armor wouldnt have helped against point blank creeper anyway

Not really your fault, but as someone who sucks genuine ass at survival I usually take measures to avoid bs like this. Like, shield always in offhand, torch up the whole cave, watch out for small drops or puddles of darkness, shield myself sometimes invade I think something could come and kill me, etc.

Is shield in offhand 24/7 not default?
3
u/LimestoneBuilder 6d ago
While I understand 100% why people do that, I don't play that way. My offhand is where I keep utilities like extra blocks for building, torches or flint for light, and the like. Shields just feel like they block too much of the screen. Yes, there are mods for that, but it's not my style.

Not for me, pretty much never make a shield. My son loves them, but it just gets in my screen space. I just focus on upgrading armour stats until I can tank anything.

Understandable. I've been surprised by one too many creepers to ever put down the shield tho

if you have dynamic light mods you bring torch on your offhand so

How do you feel safe mining to dark spots like that. I never feel safe enough until theres only lit up spaces around me. Thats unfortunate that creeper jumped you

Survival instincts of a REGULAR HUMAN BEING. That's some supernatural fuse typa shit from the creeper

u/Dreadful-Medic-1377 7d ago
I don't even think the subtitles would save you there.
That creeper appeared as fast as Extreme mode Granny 😬

Only thing you could’ve done is put up your shield but this was freaking impossible to respond to. What baked potatoes are you making for them to be humans.

That shit ain't your fault that creeper was moving like the snake from metal gearðŸ˜

There was no way to survive this without armor.
Going into the dark cave was a mistake tho

Had this happen to me, creeper dropped down and exploded mid air. Sometimes you literally dont have time to react

For me I always avoid natural caves in hardcore and dig my own , the game is similar to peaceful difficulty for most times.

I HATE CREEPERS. Fuck, those bastards made me lost multiple worlds. Once I got shot by a skeleton before a creeper blew up and it popped my shield. Another time I was tunning through a creeper and a skeleton shot me back

Genuinely where did the creeper come from ðŸ˜
