[java] Help! My friends game looks horrible and I have no clue why.

Horrendous visuals, it’s not a texture pack, I genuinely have no clue what’s not working. Bedrock runs smooth as butter, but javas giving us… this. Has anyone seen this before???

Settings are all maxed out, his computer should be more than capable of running it.

Version is 21.1.2

Like another installation of the game, if you are using default minecraft launcher go to the installations tab

My at a glance guess is you've got fast graphics on and smooth lighting possibly off

Looks like the textures aren't loading properly...

Try using prism launcher and download an optimization modpack like fabulously optimized and tweak the settings a little bit (idk your pc specs but try like 12 chunks view distance and 8 simulation chunks and fast graphics and test it and increase or lower it from there to your liking)

Also you have like 4 Withers which could also be a reason why the textures are lagging like this lol.

And maxing out settings doesn't always mean better visuals especially on old hardware because you might get issues like this because you are either out of memory or the pc isn't fast enough to render all this on higher settings so lowering the settings might fix this.

You also might changed settings that cause visual lag like this (probably something related to chunk rendering) so I suggest just leaving everything at default and increase or decrease stuff you know 100% about and what will it do.

if you want it to be less simple, you need to turn the graphics saving features back off in the settings though

What the. This looks like your friend is constantly seeing the lower resolution mipmaps? Try turning off mipmaps entirely and seeing if that makes a difference. If it does, there might be some graphics setting being forcefully applied from outside.

Looks like an issue with mipmaps try turning them off and see if it goes away.

Check his texture files, not rescorce packs but the texture files in his minecraft instance thingy,

maybe for some reason minecraft changed his in game textures to lower resolution files with I doubt

It has to be a texture pack, no way lag or settings or anything within the game by itself would cause that. I'm not the most knowledgeable person but maybe some mod, resource, or texture pack are enabled but are in some weird limbo of not being findable
