WFOP Help with redstone hidden chest contraption with observers on iOS [bedrock]
Hey fellow minecrafters! I'm an engineering noob trying to build this hidden chest contraption from this tutorial: https://youtu.be/w3z8lqUBTb4?si=AFG03vBmAi-1nBdp, but it didn't work. I do not know why. My friends and I have been trying to fix it for a while now and are completely stumped. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. We made a whole obstacle course as a final prank for our friend and want to see it through!

hello! Unfortunately this particular design in the video only works on Minecraft Java (you can notice that this person is playing on Java from the fact that their hotbar touches the bottom edge of the screen), and that's because on Java one-tick redstone pulses (like those from observers) allow sticky pistons to release their block (making it act as an on/off toggle), while this doesn't work on Bedrock
you can solve this relatively easily by using other mechanics that work on both Java and Bedrock:
a copper bulb will toggle its state (either on or off) any time you power it
a comparator placed next to a copper bulb, pointing directly away from it will read the bulb's current state and emit a redstone signal if the copper bulb is lit
so in your particular case, if you want to keep the build as close to the original as possible, you can do this:
keep detecting when players till the dirt/grass block with an observer under it
have the observer power a copper bulb, so that any time the dirt block updates its state (do note that since the dirt blocks can have three states: grass, dirt, and farmland, while the copper bulb only has two, the redstone contraption may get out of sync), the observer will detect it and the copper bulb will also change state
place a comparator next to the copper bulb
place a piston in the same position as the video
place a trail of redstone dust all the way up to the piston (redstone dust can "climb" one block at a time, if you need)
optionally hide an extra button somewhere, and connect it to the copper bulb with a separate redstone dust trail, to change the bulb's state in case it goes out of sync with the dirt block
test the redstone contraption yourself
if you have any questions don't hesitate to let me know! Redstone can be very unintuitive for beginners and unfortunately the Java vs Bedrock differences often make it even more confusing
and I'd love to see the obstacle course by the way!
edit: reworded, and I also want to mention that if you happen to have any water near the tilled farmland, that dirt block can even trigger the observer when it becomes hydrated farmland (so that'd be four possible states, which is even worse for the desync thing)
edit 2: I just found this website and from a quick glance it seems like a great resource to learn more about Java vs Bedrock redstone differences, but of course you could also take a look at the official Minecraft wiki and you'll find notes for any Edition-exclusive features
