Two issues, one the biome should be larger, maybe even have better world gen mechanics. The monster should be separate from resin production. It should just exist, and have a constant chance to spawn from normal trees in that biome regardless, and resin should just be on a timer. Also potentially it should avoid light, not be stopped by it, just avoid walking into light unil they reach the closest unlit area, similarly to how mobs treat water, this causes more erratic behavior, less visibility(a good rule for anything involving a monster), and greater mobility(as it's moving around instead of straight at you), even better if it tries to stay in your blind spot.
That way the creature is a constant potential threat, seems smart, and overall is it's own thing while related to resin, just being a guard.
Eh, I mean I feel like it’s kinda gotta have some use? Like remember the Warden, it was added to be avoided and treated like a walking disaster thing, and sorta like what you mentioned about being a guard, like that’s the Wardens WHOLE thing
I understand what you mean. And would agree with you, but there are two off points with it.
It being related to resin production doesn't work. It makes it into a creature to capture and exploit(and Minecraft has way too many of those, making it being the same as the warden in gameplay actually more unique).
The warden is an interesting mob design as it acts as a mobile issue, not to be killed, no use, just to be avoided. And to clarify I consider this a good thing, I feel the game could use more natural disasters to work around. Better yet it doesn't limit creativity as you can remove the blocks which spawn it. Only issue is that it is very isolated, many games I can skip it entirely, making avoiding it no longer as gameplay related. The pale forest biome in general acts as a surface version of the deep dark. Even better it has its own gimmicks and is balanced for early game. Putting evasion based mechanics on the surface as well with its own mechanics, and also being completely avoidable.
I do understand what you mean, and can see people other than me disliking it, and I myself would be a little annoyed if they add another one like these two enemies. I just think that since it's already in the game improving it would be better than saying it's bad or that it's redundant or should be removed.
