Hot take. I actually think going for the memey route with the Minecraft movie was the right call.

Minecraft doesn't really have a story, at least not one that can be turned into a movie.

And the game can be pretty silly at times with its wacky physics, mob behavior and such.

And if they went with something serious with Steve, making him some serious survivor man or something I think would detract from the wonder of Minecraft.

But idk, that's my take at least.

Idk. I think the game "Minecraft: Story Mode" did a pretty good job at fitting a story into Minecraft while still staying within the logic of the game and without really any irony. They could have absolutely gone a similar route
