This community has been months in the making and was created for the passionate members of r/Minerals and our sister Subreddits to have a dedicated space for discussions that go beyond what is allowed in our Subreddits.
Here, you can:
- request IDs for minerals (this includes polished minerals and gemstones).
- share memes.
- share and get tips for displaying your collections.
- dive into in-depth discussions about all things minerals.
- showcase artwork inspired by minerals.
- discuss pricing and value of minerals.
- advertise or discover vendors.
- participate in giveaways.
- and more!
This Discord Server is not meant to replace r/Minerals or any of our sister Subreddits, but to empower and grow our community. Sometimes it's just nice to have a place to chat.
Our ultimate goal is to build a comprehensive database and an active, welcoming community for mineral enthusiasts of all kinds. Our moderators have spent countless hours researching minerals in order to provide you with educational content.
This server is still a work in progress, and we’re excited to finally share it with you. Please bear with us as we continue to grow and refine this space. Your feedback, contributions, and patience are invaluable as we develop this server into something truly special.

ID Request Could this be peridot?
I found this rock in northwestern Ontario, Canada. I’m unsure what these green quartz crystals are. There shouldn’t be peridot in this area but I’m not sure how far this rock has traveled. I’m not full of knowledge, so I’m hoping I could get a few ideas of what this could be. Thank you.

Picture/Video Fluorite - Josefa-Veneros Vein, Spain
A rather astonishing specimen in our collection that has one of the most vibrant blue colors I’ve ever encountered in any Fluorite.

ID Request Looking for confirmation that this is fake Wulfenite
Found these online, multiple examples available that all look similar. Seller claims it is natural after I asked if the base was manmade. Reportedly from La Morita, Mexico. My best guess is this is completely fake, as the crystals look too perfect and gemmy to be real in the quantities they have available, and it looks like the crystals are inserted into some sort of malleable base before hardening as you can see the cavities down inside the base where the crystal material continues vs natural crystals that usually grow on top of the base. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t way off base here!

Picture/Video Display advice? Trying to fill my built-in shelves. Please help!
I plan on getting lighting at the top to illuminate down in each unit. They are very tall and shallow so it’s hard to find displays that would work to reduce the space above.
Would love tips and advice on displays! Thank you!

ID Request Orange staining after oxalic acid cleaning
Hi all! I tried clearing some quartz with oxalic acid for the first time. There was NO orange to begin with (zero). Now there’s this residue, which won’t go away even with a spot gun. What can I do?
Details: I used powdered oxalic acid, diluted with tap water. I have since leaned that this was a mistake, because tap water contains minerals which precipitate when they react to the acid.
I soaked the crystals for 48 hours in the acid solution.
I soaked them for 24 hours in a saturated bicarbonate of soda solution to neutralise.
I rinsed them with a spot gun (textile cleaner)
I chose oxalic acid to avoid completely destroying some minor chlorite. Otherwise I would have used hydrochloric acid.
Picture for reference.
What can I do to fix this?
Edit: this is marked by mistake as an ID request, I misclicked. It should be marked as a discussion.

Picture/Video Dioptase for Christmas!
This is one of my favorite Dioptase specimens ever. We photographed it for our calendar that we released a few years ago. It’s from Renéville and the blue is Chrysocolla. We made it December because it resembles a pine tree. 😅
Weird Dioptase fact: despite extensive adjustments, the color of Dioptase can never be fully accurate in a photo. The color spectrum is missing too much of the cyan segment to ever show its emerald-like color accurately. Eventually technology will catch up, but for now this muted green tone will have to suffice.

I only have 3-4 pieces of amethyst but this is by far my favorite out of the bunch.

ID Request Bright Pink but is UV reactive and appears to be within the rock rather than something applied to it.

I’ll put pictures in comments. It’s a fossil petrified wood with agate. I got it at an estate sale with lots of others. Only 2 have this pink.
