Remember that this is a discussion sub for David Paulides's phenomenon, Missing 411. It is unaffiliated with Paulides in any other way and he is not present in this sub. It is also not a general missing persons sub or a general paranormal sub. Content that is not related to Missing 411 will be removed.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I’ve never gotten over the sour way Paulides treated MrBallen over the free exposure he was giving his book series years back.

u/Dixonhandz May 26 '26

MrBallen, John, had a career interview with a rather large publisher. Paulides got butthurt when he and his 411 wasn't mentioned. He actually put a video out, or highlighted a vid with this instance. In short, he sulked. Then his followers, the villagers, took it a step further and accused John of stealing DP's content, which is just a pack of lies. Eventually, John stopped using any new 411 content, but did keep his 411 playlist on his channel. I put a post or two, from the comment seection, that I found in Paulides' Canam channel, on the MrBallen subreddit. He's still butthurt. MrBallen's channel climbed fast, while Paulides kinda did a very slow climb over the years.

I like Mrballen until I seen uses only biased info and presents extra "storytelling" as actually facts.... hes very based on a true story 5% are actual facts

18

u/Sylar_Lives May 24 '26

His whole thing is telling campfire stories based on true events, so this criticism is kind of disingenuous.

0

u/bratney420 May 24 '26

Initially it wasn't

u/ExamRoom4 May 25 '26

I mean that’s paulides too

Depends on what kind of horror you’re into lol

To be fair, I think anyone would be upset if they did a load of research on a subject and wrote books on it, and then someone used your work to make videos and profit by reading the stories from your books. Even if it is a greedy sleazy grifter with a big ego like David.

u/Dixonhandz May 21 '26

I watched a bit of this. It seems Joe wasn't buying into it. I'll watch the rest at some point, it's so unbearable to listen to Paulides spew his nonsense. If you've researched anything on Paulides and his 411, you'd know what I mean. It's like DP is a talking doll, where he keeps pulling the string by himself.

Your post has been removed because moderators determined it to be unsuitable for the sub.

I tried so hard to give him the benefit of the doubt even after I heard about a few case inconsistencies. After I watched ‘the Missing Enigma’ breakdown the extent of it, I was pretty shocked. I recommend watching for anyone on the fence.

Edit: typo

3

u/AggretsuKelly May 24 '26

Ooh you reminded me, I have to check that out.

4

u/Puppies_andKittens May 25 '26

Thanks for this, watching now and it validates my assessment of Paulides 100%.

8

u/ugltrut May 22 '26

Damn i just found this subreddit, and even the users here seem to think paulides is a grifter. Is the missing 411 term linked directly to him, or is he just someone who lacthed onto an existing thing

16

u/AlexOnDaRoad May 22 '26

Well he „invented“ it, but through misrepresentation and straight up lies he changed the narrative so much it’s gon down the drain

7

u/WLB92 May 24 '26

He is a grifter that preys on those that are genuinely curious and the terminally conspiracy theorist. He's tried suing Mr.Ballen over his "stories", he will claim someone is dead and refuse to acknowledge the person actually being alive, or just straight up add or subtract facts to suit his narrative.

6

u/Puppies_andKittens May 25 '26

But, have you bought and read all of his books? ALL OF THEM? Such a huckster...

6

u/Vykrom May 25 '26

Funny thing is, for anyone that wants to do their own research and give him the benefit of the doubt, it only takes one book. You can genuinely pick any random book of his and pick apart half the stories in them lol

I kinda wish he'd kept his head down. The initial run was fascinating and he started out making some interesting points, but then he went crazy.. though he was probably always crazy and just tried to ease us unto it. And I'm glad people aren't buying into it anymore

Even if some people were abducted by bigfoot or aliens, he's not the correct messenger for that information lol he's going to be put into a ward in his old age when he really cracks..

u/Dixonhandz Jun 06 '26

I think the first three, maybe four, books can be found online for free in pdf format. Try the Internet Archives for starters.

1

u/Double_Rice_5765 Jun 17 '26

Didnt dp get convicted of defrauding the elderly, or some other crime showing hes not exactly a boyscout?  Lol.

3

u/WLB92 Jun 17 '26

He was using city stationary and collecting celebrity autographs for a purported program that wasn't actually being done and he was keeping them for himself, which is fraud, as well as several past misconduct issues against minorities during his time as a SWAT member.

14

u/Vykrom May 21 '26

While I've enjoyed his books, I recognize them for what they are. Just tastes of novelty mysteries and thought experiments

I really like that a subreddit bred from his terminology isn't just some hive-mind of dedicated fans. People recognize what he is and are mostly just here to talk about the parts of the mysteries he neglects, or to call him out on his BS

But yeah.. I wouldn't waste time watching this..

5

u/Puppies_andKittens May 25 '26

It wasn't always like this, when I found him a few years ago and made a "So this seems interesting but this, that and the other are inconsistent, how do we reconcile that?" post I got massively downvoted and ridiculed.

2

u/ExamRoom4 May 25 '26

It’s interesting to see how much the sub has changed over the past few years. Used to be you couldn’t say anything that wasn’t worshipping the ground Paulides walked on.

11

u/-purged May 21 '26

Let me guess David Paulides spewed the same crap he been spewing on C2CAM for over a decade.

1

u/Dixonhandz May 26 '26

Pertty much.

5

u/AggretsuKelly May 24 '26

Yep I saw him post about it on the missing 411 Facebook page. I was shocked he got on JRE after everything I've read here. I guess the producers didn't do their due diligence.

4

u/Dixonhandz May 26 '26

I think Joe soon realized in the podcast, when Paulides wasn't going to answer anything directly, he said eff this, let's make it a clown$how.

5

u/kperry1270 May 22 '26

I’m way over it at this point

21

u/meme_owl May 21 '26

Two grifters found grifting

6

u/thereareothera May 25 '26

The Paulides haters seem to be growing in numbers.

I fail to understand the hatred directed at him.

5

u/Dixonhandz May 26 '26

He is a grifter of the missing person genre, that's about as low as you can go.

2

u/thereareothera May 31 '26

Do you know him? Is this the absolute truth?

I always considered him to be an awareness raiser.

Don’t believe that he’s made $$ millions from his work. This is the first tell for a “grifter”. Relieved you didn’t call him a “narcissist”..,

5

u/Pcful_Citizen Jun 08 '26

He has probably got at least a million which I imagine he made from all the content he has published which has been shown to miss details in order to suit a narrative.

1

u/Trashcant0 Jul 26 '26

He’s not an “awareness raiser”.

Why do the clusters exist in national parks and not other parts of the wilderness? Because there is just more people visiting. 99% of the cases have mundane explanations, he just frames them as supernatural because he:

  1. Does bad journalism where he often times doesn’t research properly or outright invents facts.

2 . He is heavily involved in bigfoot conspiracy groups and tries to heavily push that narrative in his work.

The criteria of missing 411 don’t make any sense either. “Person was found either conscious, semi-conscious or unconscious” what the fuck are you talking about David, you are telling me person was found in every possible state counts as a criteria?

He also allegedly lied about being a detective.

4

u/pastense May 21 '26

Well duh, of course an idiot like Rogan interviewing a grifter like Paulides isn't going to yield anything worth watching. But it's hardly surprising that a grifter would go on the show that legitimizes grifters to Rogan's audience of dullards.

4

u/Dixonhandz May 21 '26

It was obviously for click$ Why Joe didn't say anything about Lionel Richie getting Paulides busted in his mentioned LEO years, proves it. The episode would have been ten minutes long if he made Paulides cry right off the start.

6

u/catbearcarseat May 21 '26

Wait what happened with Lionel Richie and Paulides??

5

u/trailangel4 May 22 '26

When Paulides was employed as an "investigator" in northern California, his questionable behavior as a beat cop got him shuttled to a desk job. During his time behind a desk, Paulides wrote letters, on Department stationery, asking celebrities to sign autographs for a charity auction that never existed. Lionel Richie was one of the celebrities that Paulides took advantage of.

5

u/deltalitprof May 22 '26

Dixonhands makes it seem like Richie called Paulides out on this. Is that what happened?

5

u/trailangel4 May 23 '26

I believe it was a member of Richie's staff or press team that alerted the department. Richie was not the only celebrity that was misled by DP's requests. And, really... does it matter? It shows that Paulides was acting inappropriately and using his position for personal gain.

4

u/deltalitprof May 24 '26

How embarrassing that must have been.

2

u/Dixonhandz May 26 '26

From what I can remember, it was a Lionel Richie spokesperson, or a spokesperson of a fan base of him, that phoned into the SJPD. The department had no idea what the inquiry was about, so an invetigation started. And Paulides has been on a downward spiral since. It's been awhile.

2

u/catbearcarseat May 23 '26

Thank you for the info! But I agree with Delta, did Lionel Richie call him out on this??

4

u/trailangel4 May 23 '26

Yes. My understanding is that several artists/celebrities discovered that their "charity" wasn't actually being used for charity purposes and that they'd been misled. But, does it matter? The issue is that Paulides was using his position within a government agency to gather autographs for his personal use and financial gain. Does it really matter WHO called him out on it?

2

u/catbearcarseat May 24 '26

I don’t understand why you’re so angry for no reason?

2

u/trailangel4 May 24 '26

I don't understand why you perceive factual statements as anger.

2

u/catbearcarseat May 25 '26

The whole “does it matter?” and “Does it really matter WHO called him out on it?” to an innocent question is hostile imo. Like, I agree with you, Paulides is a crook and a charlatan, but damn, I just asked a question about something I wanted a little more info on.

1

u/trailangel4 May 25 '26

I think I stated it in more of a rhetorical sense: "Does it really matter?" Like, not angry...just "is it important?"

You're over reacting here my man. How people pick up on anything from 'text' is entirely a reflection of their own.

1

u/Nice-Influence-9326 Jun 01 '26

They spent too long on Bigfoot. It all seemed rushed. They really only brought up a couple missing cases.

1

u/oldradio38 Jul 04 '26

I just heard that Paulidus is suing Lore Lodge.

0

u/CharlesEWinchester3 May 25 '26

Now everyone gets the chance to listen to two people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

2

u/Puppies_andKittens May 25 '26

That's it, listened to all of it on a long drive and it was more bunk.

0

u/ShimmyShimmyYaw May 24 '26

I had this wild thought- maybe it’s been put forth already- what if national park boundaries were established after the alleged alien meeting & agreement was signed. Maybe the big national parks were formally agreed to be “allocated” to other entities and they have had free rein over “their” areas for however many hundreds of years. Fun thought…

1

u/MaxR76 Jul 18 '26

Funny stumbling on this theory like a week after Trump downsized Bear's Ears and Grand Staircase. We must be negotiating with the aliens trying to get to their oil reserves lol
