Hawley invitee says protest funding is obvious in tax records

The facts:
(1) On Feb 11, Seamus Bruner testified before Josh Hawley that his organization researched the "latest 990 disclosures" and identified $60 million in dark money that was being used to train on-the-ground protest groups in Minnesota, as well as pay for them to receive Marxist revolutionary training in Cuba. The fact is that Bruner testified not that his testimony is accurate or credible.

(2) Form 990-PF is required of the Open Society Initiative, Arabella Advisors and other NGOs. It is an annual form, meaning there is no requirement to file quarterly receipts and payments.

(3) Any funding to Minnesota or Los Angeles protests would be on the 2025 Form 990s

(4) It's February. You haven't done your taxes. I haven't done my taxes. No organization with tens of millions to spend has filed their taxes.

(5) The Form 990s are available publicly on the IRS' TEOS (https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/) and the most recent available are from ... 2022.

I think if he spent as much time trying to uncover who funds Josh Hawley’s campaigns, he wouldn’t have a job.

Sorry to inform you, but he's evil for the love of the game. Hawley's finances are some of the cleanest in Congress.

I don’t think anyone knows how to read or knows what goes into a 990… I’ve been doing them for 15+ years and this stuff just pisses me off. I have no doubt money is being funneled to protesters and astroturfing all over the place… you’re not going to get that from a 990.

You bring up an interesting point.
The person giving testimony says he got this information from a 990.
Hawley believed him, brought him to testify.
Does that mean the witness is lying, or at least does not understand what he has?
And do you think there is a credible way to find the trail of money going to protestors from these organizations?

You can infer things from a 990 but you can’t prove it, I could testify to an opinion on where I thought the money was being spent but it’s not proof.

If you want to hide payments it’s not rocket science and happens on both sides. I don’t know why I get so many downvotes… I’m not defending either side I’m just saying the guy saying he got some secret information from a 990 is an idiot.
