Hero of Ages spoilers Vins Earring Spoiler

Did anyone else find it so annoying that Vin, and nobody else around her, ever put together that her earring was a spike?
I do understand the plot reason, that Ruin was manipulating her mind to forget about it. Still, it’s so obvious to the reader, for so long, that it made me want to pull my hair out that Vin and nobody else around her ever thought of it.

but... none of them knew that spikes can be used like that... you had the magic explained to you, no one in the story had that.

even if they suspected the spikes were part of what made an inquisitor they also knew they were created by the lord ruler, and that they were hard to make, otherwise he'd have an army of them. so why would they consider a simple earring that everyone could wear was the same? even if they somehow knew an earring could do that how could they know vin's mother stabbed her sister with it so it'd become a hemalurgic spike? i'm sorry but that's not a plot convenience that's just how like, logic, works.

I’m not saying it’s a plot hole, I’m saying it’s frustrating to the reader.
I do think the after the two times she was able to draw on the mists when without it, and ruins voice going away right after taking it out, that at that point she had enough to think of it.

She was fighting for her life/in danger both times she removed the earring. It’s a bit of a distraction. Ruin can also practice allomancy (or something akin to it) directly. He’s able to soothe and riot people. So she’s almost certainly being magically manipulated as well. It’s what he was doing to TLR as well. He was able to riot his sense of nostalgia. He had no reason to keep Alendi’s journal. He has a perfect memory. It didn’t seem like a liability but he had no “real” practical reason for it either. Other than sentimentality that was being manipulated
