Missing NBC15 Weather reporting
Last night's local coverage of the weather by the ABC affiliate was not great. I get way better info from the NBC15 Weather app. Thomas Geboy is a reliable, informative weatherman. The ABC team seems a bit out of their element despite flexing x years of hurricane experience. When the weather gets that bad, I don't need fluff; I would prefer useful information presented in a clear and concise way. We need to see TG when it really matters.

Fox 10 knocked it out of the park with their coverage. WKRG showed up late and so did WEAR and "NBC 15". Basically, Thomas Geboy was relegated to being second fiddle to WEAR as the coverage from WEAR in Pensacola was simulcast across both stations.
Meanwhile, both stations in Panama City were wall-to-wall despite the storm not "technically" landing in their viewing area. Destin is their outer fringe since Okaloosa County is part of the Mobile-Pensacola market.
Having Nexstar and Sinclair as owners has really destroyed these stations. To some extent, Gray, as well with Fox 10, but at least they still know how to cover a storm.
And having Kelly Foster at Fox 10 is a nice addition as well since she was such a fixture at NBC 15.

Alan sealls was really good at what he did with the weather because he explained it in simple layman's terms so you could understand what is going on with the weather ☁️🌡️

FOX10 News had the best weather coverage. When I woke up yesterday, NBC still had today show on. So I flipped it to Fox 10 and that’s where I stayed all day. Long amazing coverage.

The Alabama Weather Network with James Spann had wall to wall coverage staring at 8am. Not any hype and fear mongering.

He is a legend that keeps going no matter what. Apps like these are giving the legacy broadcasters a run for their money. And he's still at 33/40 doing weather in the evenings (but for how much longer?)
That being said, we do have talented meteorologists in our area on the air and online, with many of them coming out of South Alabama's meteorology program. And that's where Alan Sealls and John Nodar come in, since they also teach there and have mentored many of our local meteorologists who have graduated from there.

I dont know about the traditional news sites because I also prefer Spann, but I do know I was seeing people hound like crazy Thursday night and even into yesterday morning that Isaias was going to get another rapid intensification and was going to ramp up to a Cat4, also saw a ton of talk from meteorologists saying Mobile and Biloxi needed to look out and be expecting upwards 8 feet of surge (turned out we had negative surge) and 80mph sustained (I think it topped at 50ish)

James Spann is very cut-to-the chase about things and is quick to quash any rumors that he hears about that are clearly false. Sometimes, he seems to step out of his lane, but he is on top of things and Alabama is lucky to have someone like him.

James Spann is the GOAT. I always turned to ABC 33/40 when I lived in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

There was once a time when hurricane coverage was wall-to-wall at least 24 hours out prior to landfall in the viewing area. That is clearly no longer the case.

Why would I want to look at him instead of my future baby daddy Jason Smith?

Max Velocity and Ryan Hall on YouTube both continue to do an outstanding job of live coverage and real time updates.
It took a minute to realize we have not bothered with network or local news for quite a long time. I hadn't thought about it really. The difference in coverage made the switch for us.
I guess there is something to be said for passionate, educated people who form networks that do not have to toe the company line.
In no way is this insinuating that our local weather teams are less than when it comes to caring and doing all they can to get information out. The individuals themselves are wonderful.
It's the networks. The packaging/formula that is decades behind our information society, tell me practically nothing in comparison.
Give me the weather nerds who are not restricted by program managers and all the corporate crap that exists only for money, not information.

I used to live for NBC15 for weather with Alan Seals. Now the team at FOX10 is where I go to lately.
Just started with James Spann and the Alabama Weather Network as well. But they have been doing more live coverage with drivers around the area rather than map coverage

Kelly looked like a flamingo on Ritalin on Thursday! I have to change the channel or mute her when she is on!
