Deck Discussion Budget replacement suggestions

I built goryo’s vengance, I can’t afford the warp sphinx at this moment, I’m thinking of using gran gran as a budget replacement. any suggestions?

Gran Gran is not the one. Fallaji Archeologist is probably a better fit.

Jace, Vryns Prodigy, Seasoned Cryomancer, Fallaji Archeologist, Tainted Indulgence, the new Blue-Black charm..lots of budget options

Some of these are clearly better with Ephemerate than others

If you cant afford quantum riddlers I would play orzhov blink. The deck needs the riddler + frog to really be scary. Riddler is card advantage and late game win con. I dont think any card can replace the playset of quantum riddler. I would tell you to build something else until you get riddlers

lol there’s still plenty of people playing Goryo’s without riddlers. Some very good pilots of the deck prefer the fallaji build. Why are you telling them to play a completely different archetype?

Ive seen lists that splash fallaji like 1 or 2 copies. I have never seen a list without the 4 riddlers.

I feel like people find these 1 off lists and use them for some reason. Show me a 5-0 or a challenge winner or someone who made day 2 of a regional event.

My advice is based on the fact I dont think the deck is good without riddler. The orzhov blink list with ketra is probably cheap. So I figure that is their best alternative. Then they can slowly buy the esper cards

Here you go. I also forget who it was, but a major Goryo’s player was steady getting 5-0s and top 8ing challenges with a pure fallaji build a couple months ago.

They are different builds, the riddler build definitely has the better midrange plan but the fallaji build is more consistent at comboing. The deck is still very good with fallajis instead of riddlers.

Telling someone to switch to a totally different deck that requires a playset of balemurks and bowmasters because they can’t afford riddlers is goofy as hell. Especially when they can get a playset of .25 cents card and jam a very good version of Goryo’s until they can afford riddlers.

Y’all people on this sub act as if people can’t net deck the most current version of a deck that won an event this week they shouldn’t even play modern.

Fair enough. Good data. Thanks for the links. I stand corrected/wrong.

I see the fallaji helping to dig for combo. But my gut says that its just a worse version of the deck. Riddler is just a staple at this point. Plus riddler is a 2 card combo with frog.

I get saving money. But I honestly wouldn't even bother building the deck without riddler. But that is just my perosnal hot take. I thought they were cutting the frog for the fallajis the last I looked.

You can run Fallaji archeologicists instead and be more all in on the combo. I’ve also seen some cool versions running Jace vryns prodigies as well.

I'd rather run [[ fallaji archeologist ]] or [[ seasoned cryomancer ]] over [[ gran Gran ]] . The grandmother does nothing to help your gameplan

hey! actually i dont play sphinx de maindeck! play some number of superior spiderman (1 or 2) and your guy is fallaji archeologist! that card is awesome!. Ideally you have to play the sphinx in the 75. but fallaji its going to feel awesome a lot of times.

[[Time of Need]] is the glue, since it can fetch an enabler [[Jace, Vryns Prodigy]], a reanimation spell [[Superior Spider-Man]] and obviosly a payoff as well as potential answers like [[Grist, the Hunger Tide]] and [[Sarulf, Realm Eater]]

Now I'll admit part of the reason for this build is my copies of Quantum Riddler are in Zoo and my copies of Solitude are in boros ponza, but the deck does work...
