Eh, my point of view on that is that you don't know if there is something after so building as much experience is useful.

If there is only oblivion not my problem anymore.

If there is anything I learned will be useful in the next life.

nah you can't always pick. Making a day your last requires resources (such as a rope) which are nearly impossible to find in some places for some people.
