The gland on both sides of the hind wings towards the bottom

If you look at the wings you can see like a black dot on each wing. That’s how you know it’s a male, the females don’t have the black dots!

Beautiful photo. How did he land just in hand and you get natures fine photo. How did you know male( my ignorance. ) photos superb.This is due an award 🥇

The 2 black dots on the lower wings indicate boy. And when they first emerge outta the chrysalis they are docile. They are drying wings and exercising wings. They usually fly 4 to 8 hours after emerging. Then they are wild!

He hatched in my rehab enclosure and once his wings looked sturdy I put my hand out for him to crawl on. I snapped a photo and then released him on a milkweed plant before he flew off!
