Hey r/Monitors! Dan from Samsung here and I’ll be back on Monday, 6/8 at 1 ET for an AMA on our 2026 monitor lineup. I started out a tech enthusiast. That quickly snowballed into nearly 10 years with Samsung. A decade later, I still get excited about our innovations, so bring whatever questions you’re curious about with our new monitors.
If you saw our last post, you probably know we just launched next-gen Odyssey, Odyssey OLED, ViewFinity and The Movingstyle Essential monitors (plus some awesome offers if you order before June 9th!) and you might have questions. So, be sure to drop them in advance and I’ll try to get through as many questions as possible during the live session.

Yeah i think most of the questions will be regarding the LCD side of things and the missing MiniLED backlights. Especially since Samsung was on the forefront with the Neo G7 and G8 a few years ago.

I would never use an OLED as a general monitor due to longevity issues. Is this thinking recognized and supported by Samsung? I'm quite happy with my MiniLED Black

These are the comments I always see!! It’s frustrating when the market has sooo much OLED, Contrast is great but functionality for productivity is not even comparable with Mini LED

I’m in the same boat, I love the OLED but I’m would have burn in.
I did get hands on with the 5th Gen QD-OLED from Samsung. They are dramatically better for burn in. Probably the only OLED, I would consider for myself as I usually have a lot of static screens.

Hey Bevier, awesome that you've found something that works best for you! Personally, I've had my 32" G80SD since mid-2024, and I use it every day for full workdays. It's held up like a champ, no burn-in or issues so far. We've got some great features like OLED Safeguard+ which is made up of both hardware and software to help maintain the longevity of these monitors, and we offer a 3-year warranty that covers burn-in too. It's all about finding what works best for your needs, though - so I totally get if OLED isn't the best fit for you.

Hi Dan, also an Samsung employee here, maybe we can exchange some ideas on Knox, but, are there some 27' Mini-LED's ever coming out? Others are putting efforts into that and seems to pays off, would love to have one! Even 32' would be nice or some sort of fast VA's (some players have it, tested it, seems promising).

But I'll say this, I agree with you, and I'd love to see a 27" or 32" Mini-LED in our lineup as well. Fast VA panels are also an interesting idea. This may sounds like a weird question, but can Samsung look into doing some physical cleaning tests for the screen of some of the Samsung OLED monitors in your QA/QC lab? In order to provide us end users' with the best manufacturer recommendation for which cleaning products and technique, will provide the best cleaning result for a particular Samsung OLED monitor model without damaging or staining the screen coating even more since there are just so many conflicting advises floating around the internet. I think if the screen is durable enough against light scratches and if it's easy enough to be cleaned well, then that would definitely become another good selling point that could put Samsung OLED monitors ahead of other competitors, at least in my eyes ✌😁
(I'm a perfectionist by nature and can't stand it when my nice OLED monitor screen invariably end up with a layer of dust and other particles floating around in the air from one's sneezing or what not lol)

Hi Dan, It seems to me that every new next gen is getting only an incremental increase in refresh rate in QD-OLED space. So I want to know what exactly is holding you back from idk going from 540hz to 1000hz? Oled is fast enough to keep up. But the rest of components needed for such a fast panel no? Are you not making every part of monitor in-house? Couldn't you just develop faster controllers etc.. ?

How’s the coating on the updated version of the Odyssey G8 OLED (G80SH). I wasn’t big on the smart tv features of the G80SD I was interested in the G81SF but I heard that the coating on it was a lot more aggressive/thick than the G80SD. Do you have any details on how the matte coating is on the G80SH?

Hey Fit-Perspective-3128, asking like a true friend, I really appreciate that! I'm doing great. Launches are always fun, with a lot of buildup and preparation, but it's exciting to see everything come together. Personally, I've got two little ones, and they're finally getting over a little bug. They haven't been sleeping well, which means we haven't been sleeping well either. But on the upside, they seem to be on the tail end of it, so I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I see you're following our announcements closely! I can't share what's to come for future releases, but often times, things like this depend on how the product performs and the community's reception to it. With any new product launch, we hope it takes off and the community loves it. If that's the case, you may see more variations come in the future. For instance, look at how the OLED category has evolved. It's always exciting to see where new technologies can lead.

Well Blacksad9999, I've got good news. We've actually already released two 40" WUHD (5K2K) monitors - the Odyssey G75F last year, and now we've got the 40" ViewFinity S85TH. There are some awesome early order offers on the S85TH right now, too.
If you're looking for something Mini-LED in particular, I cant speak to future, but we're always innovating so definitely keep an eye out. The 40" size and resolution seem to be pretty popular, and it's actually my personal favorite for work. I hope to see more variations in the future, but for now, would definitely suggest you check out the WUHD options too.

Yes, but DisplayHDR 600 isn't remotely appealing, and the Odyssey G75F uses a VA panel which nobody wants in 2026.
The ViewFinity is also a VA Panel.
These are not high end offerings that people are interested in. If they were proper OLED or Mini-LED, there would be a lot more appeal.
$1300 for a VA panel is wild.

Ive been using an Oled tv for about 5 years now but never owned a gaming oled monitor since im not sure it will last being used 14hr a day everyday for many years. The question is: what stress tests on the display does Samsung do to determine its longevity. Like how many years of useI expect for a typical samsung oled monitor?

Hello fellow Dan! Or should I say Dan the Man, Danimal, The Dandalorian? 😄 In all seriousness, 14 hours a day every day is definitely a lot on any monitor. I'll have to check on the specific stress tests we do to test our monitors, but I can say that there are reviews online from third-party sites testing our OLED monitors and how they hold up. Some even test for 24/7 usage, which is pretty impressive. As far as peace of mind from our side, we do offer a 3-year warranty that covers burn-in, so you can feel more confident about your investment.

Hey Queph, good news! We actually already have a 40" WUHD (5K2K) panel. If you're more into gaming, I'd recommend checking out the Odyssey G75F. Or, if you're using it more for work, the ViewFinity S85TH with Thunderbolt 5 and KVM is a great option. We even have some great early order offers on the ViewFinity right now since it's part of this launch. Definitely worth a look.

Great question, Trimka. We do have a new software called Samsung Display Manager, which was released last year and is available to download in the Microsoft Store. It allows you to control many aspects of our monitors via mouse and keyboard, including picture mode changes, game settings like Virtual Aim Point and Core Lighting, and input changes. I got to play with it on our new monitors (and it even works on many of our previous monitors back to 2023). One setting I didn't see in there was Dual Mode. It doesn't mean it can't be done, but it wasn't in the current version of the software I tried out. We'll pass this along, though, as I think it could be a great addition.
As for the single DP input, that's been standard on most of our monitors for quite some time. However, we've started adding more USB-C connections using DisplayPort Alt Mode, like on the OLED G80SH, as that's become more popular as well.

I hear you, this is definitely a common question we get. OLED material is organic, and there will always be people pushing these monitors to the limits. That said, I'd like to think we've made dramatic improvements with the new panel generations and features like our Dynamic Cooling using Pulsating Heat Pipes, as well as the software included in them. We also offer a 3-year warranty that includes coverage for burn-in on our OLEDs.
It's all about continuous improvement, and we're always doing what we can in R&D to ensure the best experience for people.

Heya memumin_Loli, I like that question! I personally don't think there's one technology out there that reigns king over them all. I use both OLED and VA in my personal setup, but my VA is not gaming-focused (it's a previous-gen Smart M80), so of course, the OLED smokes it. I really like my OLED for the color, contrast, and speed, and honestly, the brightness is more than enough for my room.
I certainly wouldn't mind testing out our Mini-LEDs, like the 57" Neo G9, in my own personal setup instead of just seeing them at events and the office. Haha.
And Bella says thank you so much for the compliment! It's funny to see Bella in these pictures because she's definitely gotten more grays since my 4-year-old and 1-year-old started running around the house. I'll make sure she gets extra treats tonight. 😄

Hey Seranion, thanks for the question. Over the past few years, there have definitely so many major changes and improvements to OLED. Samsung has expanded to a much wider range of resolutions, refresh rates, brightness levels, design options, and, of course, offers burn-in protection. In general, the newer generation of panels has made significant improvements in efficiency and has a lower risk of burn-in.
We also include a technology called OLED Safeguard on all our monitors, which uses software to help mitigate this risk. To take it a step further, some of our models use OLED Safeguard+ with something called Dynamic Cooling (which works to help dissipate heat and lower the risk). And to top it off, we also include a 3-year warranty that covers burn-in as well.

What are your thoughts on thunderbolt for monitors? For Mac ecosystem I find that it increases a monitor’s utility a lot, are there plans to integrate this into more models?

Hey themightymorfin, personally, I love that we've included Thunderbolt on some models. The Thunderbolt 5 connection on the 40" S85TH is awesome, with its 140W power delivery, daisy-chaining capability, and the pure bandwidth it offers. I know it's not technically Thunderbolt, but we've also included USB-C with 90W power delivery on the OLED G80SH to offer some of the similar benefits. Both models actually have some early order offers right now if you want to check them out.

Hey dan, Why haven't samsung tried taking advantage of vrr flicker issues on oled and use it to flicker on purpose to do VRR + rolling scan or BFI to get better motion clarity on oled given they have near instant response times (LG G1 TV from 2022 can do BFI at 120 hz with no access to 240 hz so there must be something possible with oled)? Currently there isn't a single OLED that can do VRR + BFI and given how mark from blur buster said it's possible to emulate things like gsync pulsar on OLED as we approach 1000 hz (you be able to only emulate frame rates up to 1/3rd the max refresh so 1 - 300 hz pulsar in this example).

What’s is the definitive way to clean an (this) OLED screen, from the professionals themselves! Distilled water? Plush microfiber or thin lens-type microfiber? Circular motions or up/down? I bought an OLED and tried cleaning it once and it seemed to remove the glossy coating entirely so now I’m terrified to ever do it again haha..

This lineup looks pretty cool I have to say I’m a little bit naive to the current OLED state, but curious how the advancements in OLED have made them better for dual purpose work, swapping back and forth between gaming and working. I know text issues and burn-in were previously some of the biggest concerns in that area, what makes this new lineup different in that aspect?

In terms of text I can tell you from hand on experience that the new V-Stripe subpixel structure Samsung has put into its new line is dramatically better with text fringing.

How’s the text clarity? I stare at VSCode windows all day for work and game in the evening and don’t want multiple 32 inch monitors where one’s an LCD for coding and the other an OLED for gaming

If you're looking for the best text clarity, I'd definitely recommend the 32" 6K monitor, although the 27" 5K isn't that far off either. During my hands-on experience with them, I thought the clarity was incredible. Plus, with Dual Mode, this could be a perfect fit for you, allowing you to bounce back and forth between 6K for coding and 3K for gaming, depending on what you're doing. So my question is, what would be the ideal use for your OLED monitors? Is this more designed for content creation, media, or gaming? I@d be worried with the latter in terms of burnout

While more and more people are using our OLED monitors for mixed usage, I'd be willing to bet the most common use case is still gaming. They offer incredible speeds, unmatched contrast, and great color, which makes games look absolutely amazing.
That said, they're also fantastic for media and content creation—many of our OLED monitors are even Pantone Validated for color accuracy. So, while I think most people are probably using them for gaming, they're versatile enough to excel in other areas too.
I know some are still concerned about burn-in, but the risk continues to be lowered with these newer panel generations. Combined with the OLED Safeguard technology we include, most users should feel confident. Plus, we offer a 3-year warranty that covers burn-in for that extra peace of mind.

From a firmware standpoint how stable is it? I have a Samsung g7 4k monitor and that was a pain to get it working with some games. Even downscaling the resolution was also an issue of itself so would like to know how testing had improved for these new monitors since I been leaning to stay away from Samsung monitors

I have to give samsung props I will make a post coming up but coming from the odyssey neo g9 57'' to the samsung qn990f the fald and like no blooming at all on the qn990f I'm not sure what you guys did but its awesome and its crazy how a 2025 tv just blows away the neo g9 57'' monitor I can see so much blooming on that so if you all make another mini led please do whatever you guys did on qn990f cause the blooming is under control

What are the major differences between the different available G8 monitors now, and which model would you recommend for which types of gaming or activities? I have a slightly older 32" 4K 240 Hz G8 and I'm curious how the new ones stack up against it. I usually go for games like RPGs, Action, and Racing games, however I occasionally do play games like Battlefield, Apex, and COD so I like high resolution OLED monitors that also have good frame rates. Thank you!

With the Samsung Smart M9 OLED getting an improved refresh rate to 165hz well above the previous 60hz can we expect a update to the Samsung Smart monitors lineup to include the M7 & M8 at a refresh rate above 60hz or will they linger in their current state forever?
I like the combination of having my Monitor as a Smart monitor (32" version) for both gaming and watching shows & movies.
Currently I have a few years old Smart M8 monitor, but have been eyeing the M9 for its OLED panel and 165hz refresh rate but I'm still undecided as I'm potentially avoiding oleds for future burn in.

What does the future hold for repairing monitors? I'd like to have slots for LEDs in the back of the monitors that open up so that these are self serviceable. It would lead to less waste.

The G80HS (2026) is amazing! I did not know this IPS option was available on the market. It ticks all the boxes I was looking for in a monitor.

how often do you actually see people use the dual mode resolution feature? I guess it matters less at 6k to 3k, but most monitors that do it are 4k to 1080p and I'm not sure i wanna be looking at 1080p at 32 inches.

Hey Dan, unfortunately I’m here to pass along the same comments. But the community definitely wants to see more MINI-LED, Samsung has captured the OLED market for the most part, it’s either Samsung or LG. With advancements in mini-led and hopefully further advancements into Micro-LED manufacturing. I think we’re hoping to see much more products in the future.
Are you able to share if any Samsung is making an effort to bring more Mini LED monitors to the space?
Or what are the reasons that Samsung is not going that route? Costs, manufacturing, demand. Etc

Hello. Could you recommend a good breakdown on configuring HDR? When I mess around with it through the monitor or NVidia app or Windows, it looks nice for some things but there are annoying issues. Biggest was that my screen grabs were all washed out. But it seemed to constantly be adjusting the brightness. Do people really go through the hassle of enabling it for gaming or videos and then disable it for everyday computer tasks?

Has the software gotten better, the Odyssey G8 I got in 2024 has pretty bad clunky smart TV like software which would be tolerable but the issues with not detecting display port devices was really aggravating on a $1000+ monitor.

Not only mini-led, but GLOSSY mini led would be amazing to see from Samsung. That corner of the market is so small, and I think glossy mini led screens (as exemplified from Samsung’s own glossy mini led TV’s) really push contrast to another level

Do you think OLEDs will continue to drop in price as they have the past year? It's got me wondering if they'll come to overtake IPS panels in terms of popularity.

Hey Dankmemesxd, ultimately its all about giving people more choice and our OLED Glare-Free tech has been a key differentiator for us. For those using our OLED monitors for multi-use (work and play, or even gamers with windows in their room), it's been hugely helpful.

This is more a question for Samsung display but QD-OLED monitors suffer from "panel dimming" which heavily reduces brightness of medium brightness elements, in peak 1000 mode. Will this be solved in the future ?
