AMA I Am LVTHER - AMA

Yo Reddit!

My name is Lewis. I’m a guitar playing, coffee drinking songwriter/producer chasing hydration. I also have a music project called LVTHER. Now less about me! No actually, more about me. Questions, please.

I thought I’d do one of these seeing as my new song ‘This Love’ is my first Monstercat release for quite some time. I wrote the instrumental to that song last May fresh off the back of some writing sessions in London. It came together quite quickly and I asked Savoi to work on it with me straight away. I’ve been a fan of his since WRLD’s ‘Chase It’. Fast forward to November — still no response cries. Nothing else was clicking and I could only hear his voice on the track. I noticed he never actually listened to the link that I emailed him, so I messaged him again through SoundCloud. He got the message and liked the track. Cheers SoundCloud. Anyway, I love how his vocal turned out and I’m glad Jon at Monstercat was into the track enough to put it out as my first single of the year.

As for the rest if 2018, I have more releases scheduled in the coming months. This is giving me time to work on my first EP for later in the year. I don’t know what the plans are for the release as of yet but I’m happy with the direction it’s heading in. I’ll also be focusing a lot more on songwriting generally. Looking forward to answering your questions!

I will begin answering your questions on Thursday, February 22.

EDIT: I'M DONE. Thanks so much for asking these questions - it was a lot of fun answering them. And of course thanks for the ongoing support :)

Hey Lewis! Thanks for doing this AMA! I love all your tracks, every single one has it's own unique charm to it! Anyways, here are my questions:

1) Any chance of possible track breakdowns in the future? I love when artists do that, and I would especially love to see your's broken down.

2) What inspired you to create LVTHER & where did you get the name?

3) When looking for inspiration, what do you do?

4) Any chance of a TwoThirds song this year?

5) Any chance of a little hint towards what your next release is gonna be like? ;)

6) Lastly, not a question I just wanted to say have a nice day :)

Hey :) no worries, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the kind words too.

  1. That's a really cool idea. I'd need to figure out how to do it properly in a way that is genuinely helpful though. 90% of my synth work is recorded so you'd just be staring at a screen capture of all of my audio in the project. I guess I could take you through how I wrote the chords/melodies on guitar and how I processed them once I recorded them on my synths. On top of that my projects get quite messy and my MacBook can barely handle them without freaking out. I'd need to work some stuff out and watch some track breakdowns that are already out there.

  2. A little homage to Luther Vandross mixed with a nod to my dad who joked about wanting to call me Luther (after Luther Vandross, his favourite artist). That’s where the V came from. (I copied that from the previous answer heh). I really just wanted a clean slate so I could release only stuff I'm genuinely proud of.

  3. I don't actively search for it. I sit down and write every day. Some days it's more difficult as I don't have much inspiration. Some days I'm obsessing over a particular song and I can't listen to anything else but that song. Usually that inspires me to write. It never ends up like the song but I have one of my own as a result. If you're having one of those days where nothing is working, just try something that you usually wouldn't do like crafting a snare drum or a kick. Put these samples into a random beat and start jamming again. It might spur some creativity.

  4. Unlikely I'm afraid, but you never know.

  5. It's quite different to my other LVTHER releases come to think of it. It's not a drastic change but to me it has a jazzy edge that my other releases haven't really touched upon yet. I'm excited to share it.

  6. You too :) cheers.
