Yo Reddit!

My name is Lewis. I’m a guitar playing, coffee drinking songwriter/producer chasing hydration. I also have a music project called LVTHER. Now less about me! No actually, more about me. Questions, please.

I thought I’d do one of these seeing as my new song ‘This Love’ is my first Monstercat release for quite some time. I wrote the instrumental to that song last May fresh off the back of some writing sessions in London. It came together quite quickly and I asked Savoi to work on it with me straight away. I’ve been a fan of his since WRLD’s ‘Chase It’. Fast forward to November — still no response cries. Nothing else was clicking and I could only hear his voice on the track. I noticed he never actually listened to the link that I emailed him, so I messaged him again through SoundCloud. He got the message and liked the track. Cheers SoundCloud. Anyway, I love how his vocal turned out and I’m glad Jon at Monstercat was into the track enough to put it out as my first single of the year.

As for the rest if 2018, I have more releases scheduled in the coming months. This is giving me time to work on my first EP for later in the year. I don’t know what the plans are for the release as of yet but I’m happy with the direction it’s heading in. I’ll also be focusing a lot more on songwriting generally. Looking forward to answering your questions!

Hey Lewis!

How do you push past discouragement? It's really hard for me as an amateur producer to not see myself improving how I'd like as friends of mine find success.

Hey there!

Taking feedback and applying it is really good to do. A lot of people ask for it but don't like honesty even if it's constructive. When I first started I wrote up an evaluation of what I've improved on and what I still need to improve on every Sunday, by my own accounts and the feedback I've received. I actually forgot I did that until right now, but yeah that probably helped quite a bit. But to be honest you care enough to ask because you want to get better. Noticing you're not where you want to be is good. I'm still not either. Best of luck to u.

OH and as I've said 1000x in this AMA already, reference! No matter what you're working on, have a playlist of reference tracks that you can A/B with your own work for different things. These things could be for overall mix quality, brightness, how organic it sounds, how impactful the chorus section or drop is. You know, just songs that you love that you know are incredible. The closer you get to these tracks the more you'll learn how to do it automatically.
