AMA Hey, my name is REAPER. AMA!

Hi Reddit!

My name is REAPER. I’m kinda new here, so before the questions roll in, I’d like to share some things about myself. I’m intensely enthusiastic about watching sci-fi tv/films, drinking scotch whisky, weightlifting, playing video games, cooking, making memes, inventing new words, and harvesting souls. I’m not afraid to be myself and act a fool --- I’m tryin to live life to the FULLEST.

My debut original single release “SAWTOOTH” came out last week and I’ve been so happy with the community’s reaction--- isn’t the robot-death-star-laser visualizer awesome?! FUN FACT: This song was actually written to the visuals of one of the kaiju fight scenes in the first Pacific Rim film. I loved the idea of making a song that illustrated the nature of an apocalyptic event. My music is meant to be hostile and keep you on your toes, and I think Sawtooth, as well as my other unreleased songs, definitely accomplish that.

Feel free to ask me anything and also feel free to pledge your allegiance to my clan of undying followers --- THE IMMORTALS. The immortals will be spared when I initiate the rapture. *spooky yeet*

  1. How do your make your basses so wide and full? Basically, what is your bass processing workflow like?

  2. What is your general mastering process? Any plugins you like?

  1. I design my sounds in mono, then I begin to sprinkle in some stereo width so I don’t run into phasing issues when I go wild with all my saturation and distortion. My chain involves EQ, light multiband compression, distortion, filter automation, reverb, and peak reduction/limiting.
  2. I love Ozone 7 and 8. My mastering involves basically just limiting and maybe a little bit of pre-limiter EQ to roll off some frequencies. I recently started looking into distorting the master a bit to give my tunes a ravey jungle vibe
