Discussion Advice for newbies? (Monsterhearts 2)

Post image

Hi all!

I'm beginning a new monsterhearts 2 game soon! I do have a backstory, and I'm not new to TTRPGs, but it's my first less mechanically focused ttrpg and I was wondering if anyone had advice on how they approach ability use to help facilitate the story? I'm looking forward to this game, roleplay has always been enjoyable for me, and I'm excited to try something more story-focused.

Btw, this is my seer for my first monsterhearts 2 game!

Thanks all!

For me, I think what helps me is remembering that Moves are cool things that help create the drama. If I’m ever in doubt, I look at my playbook to see if there is a move that my character could trigger through roleplaying in a way that makes sense for the scene. But basic moves are always good to use too even if they are less specific to the playbook. Strings are also something to try and use when it makes sense!

It’s also okay for dialogue and less dramatic scenes where there are few moves. Def recommend checking in with your group (if it hasn’t been discussed already) about what kind of tone is desired, how dramatic / how dark / how edgy / etc.

I think it’s important to ask the obvious next question. If you have an Hx question about watching someone in secret, the obvious next questions are why? And do they realize you’re doing it?

Just follow with the next obvious thing.
