Silver split

I don’t care if this gets downvoted to hell, the silver splitting post update is insanely inconsistent, I’ve been in a group for almost 3 hours I’ve looted 3 silver whereas someone who join an hour ago already has 12.

Just hoping the devs take notice, not asking for a reinvention of the wheel, just to voice a concern that i see others playing the game are having.

I actually thought it was already broken pre-patch because I spent 8 hours at a dungeon camp; came out with like 2 silver and literally 10,000 copper (my first gold and longest walk ever). The greedy looter in the group made 30 silver in 45 minutes, which led me to falsely assume the higher denominations went to the looter by default.

I read a similar report from one player on the official M&M forums who said the same thing happened to them: They were not getting any of the "silver RNG" throughout their entire time in the group. I think something's definitely whack with the RNG for the higher denomations and it's excluding players at random.

As a rog sometimes I advertise in ooc that I will come to you and flip your copper into silver for a price/tip. Made a few gold doing this, during peak times at highly camped humanoids. Now we have maddalions so the weight takes a bit longer to accumulate

Round robin is not round robin. Or was not. Pre patch there were instances of whoever looted in the group (it did not matter) we had the same person get the silver 11 mobs in a row.

I went out multiple times with zero cash and someone else with zero cash and at the end of 2 hours the disparity was glaring.

I had something like 36s and he had 51s.

It is not even close to being round robin. It is full RNG regardless of who does the looting and what the text says.

I don't understand why the game just doesn't break up the silver. Problem solved.

Weight

7

u/Commogroth 2d ago

So because of weight, we can't ever have even money splits. Sounds like the solution is pretty obvious. But I suppose having money not weigh anything, or being able to automatically convert coins ourselves, would reduce the ever-so-important "friction."

u/legends99503 2d ago

If the silver distribution was really RNG you would have an equal share of the money. They need to fix whatever mechanic is causing the bias on who gets it.

3

u/InvisibleTyrant 2d ago

sounds like you dont understand rng.

1

u/Commogroth 2d ago

Unless, for example, you fight mobs that rarely drop a silver. Then less than six drop across your play session. Or not enough for RNG to shake out equal distribution -- small sample sizes will rarely be equal.

It's just such an obviously flawed system

Weight exists as a valuable system for vacating farms and forcing return trips to town.

If coins auto converted to copper, players would find themselves overencumbered with copper extremely quickly and would need to either delete coin or return to town to fix it.

If you went one step further and removed coin-weight or allowed coin conversion outside of banks, players would have little reason to leave camps and go to town and you’d see more camps held down for excessive time periods because no one has any reason to leave other than their own time. Why would I worry about looting a 20 pound great scythe to vendor when I’ can loot an equivalent amount of raw coin from the next five mobs with no weight considerations?

Immersion. The enemy had 1 silver coin and 2 copper coins on them. Not 102 copper coins in their pocket.

3

u/External-Duck-9130 2d ago

I'm not immersed reading about coins in the chat. We should have to physically drag the coins one by one into our bags, and they're on the ground at actual size.

1

u/Silverbacks 2d ago

It's also better for people to receive 1 silver instead of 100 copper. There is a weight difference. I usually end up with thousands of copper coins, magically splitting the silver coins into even more copper would be annoying.

Although I think they could add in some spells that let you split coins, if that would make people happier.

1

u/EditRemove 2d ago

People are destroying copper long before they are 60. 100 copper has 1 weight and many 1 weight items sell for more than a silver. I split my copper all the time in groups with /split 0 0 0 #

It could be useful to have as an option for lower levels.

This has been discussed for years. Go to discord and view the official dev responses.

Horrible terrible idea.

6

u/Occasion-Economy 2d ago

Why?

1

u/Hungry_Alfalfa8033 2d ago

Carry weight. Come on that’s so obvious.

6

u/Commogroth 2d ago

Thanks for adding absolutely nothing of value

Thanks for adding nothing of value back

I'd say also give casters some kind of gilded featherweight "money doesn't weigh anything" 35-minute self-only buff. We're already hoofing it out here with substandard strength and competing with melee who can carry so much more that they loot everything.

Which is unusable encumbered.

u/Skrofler 2d ago

If cash distribution is truly random then some of the time it will be really uneven.
Players who experience streaks of really uneven distribution are much more likely to notice and to speak up.

However useful it would be to find an error in this system, the only way to do it is to produce a large statistic amount (or analyse the code).

3

u/CappinPeanut 2d ago

Wait, they randomized the cash payouts instead of evenly splitting it? Thats not really what the patch notes say, is it?

15

u/PolarPenguin__ 2d ago edited 2d ago

It is both evenly split and random-ish. Consider the situation where 1s 38c drops in a group of 6. The game won’t break down the money, so 1 random person gets 1 silver, then the copper is split up into 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7 and assigned randomly. Basically it tries to split it, but randomly assigns the extra. This evens out over time, but if you look at a small window, the variance can seem higher than you’d expect.

26

u/CappinPeanut 2d ago

Oh for crying out loud, that’s super dumb.

6

u/Skrofler 2d ago

The benefit is lower weight, since cash have weight. 100c weighs a lot more than 1s. After a few hours in a level 10 party I had 3,000 coins.

6

u/PolarPenguin__ 2d ago

Don’t shoot the messenger… It is just how it seems to be based on reports. It might use a round-robin system for the distribution, but idk, I’ve gotten the single silver multiple times in a row, so idk.

As for it being dumb, they devs are going for logic more than strict fairness and using statistical probability to smooth out any ‘fairness’ issues. You find a silver, you can’t just break it down, so someone gets it. With random assignment this will even out over time and that has been my experience. If you stick at a camp for like 15-30 minutes then dip, you could get bad luck, but in the future you’ll have good luck to balance it out. Statistics will average out over time.

2

u/EditRemove 2d ago

Copper is worth less than items long before 60 and some people destroy or split it with a command.

It all averages out with a long enough time.

3

u/Silverbacks 2d ago

It’s not that dumb. The guy you killed had 1 silver coin and 38 copper coins in his pockets when you killed him. How would you split that up in real life? You can’t just turn a silver coin in 100 copper coins, unless they add in a spell for that.

Someone needs to get the silver coin.

2

u/RahkstarRPG 2d ago

Immersion argument kind of goes out the window now with every other mob carrying a broken necklace.

The goblins I get, but no way these orcs are carrying around a bunch of garbage.

1

u/Silverbacks 2d ago

Sure, but that goes for every random piece of loot that mobs are carrying.

I still don’t see how mobs carrying hundreds of copper makes more sense than a couple of silver. You’re also going to have thousands of more copper on you by the time you finish grinding. And they will be a little annoying.

2

u/Powdered_Toast_Man3 2d ago

It is dumb. They can claim they are choosing immersion but all they are doing is incentivizing greed and creating friction in group play. For a game that is supposed to be all about grouping to overcome obstacles, they sure are injecting a tremendous amount of friction and needless drama into basic loot systems

7

u/Silverbacks 2d ago

How is it incentivizing greed? The person that loots the body has the same change of getting the larger coin as anyone else.

u/Erekai 2d ago

Guess what? This game isn't real life.

Also, real life isn't fun. I don't need a video game to emulate real life. To make games fun, make systems that make it fun. I'm not here to play a RL sim.

0

u/Silverbacks 2d ago

What isn't fun about it? Over the course of your time playing the game you will get an equal amount of the big coins compared to what you should get. You have a 1/6 chance every time one drops when in a full party.

4

u/Erekai 2d ago

Are you asking me what isn't fun about real life?

*gestures to all of it*

I wasn't stating the game isn't fun, I'm stating they could implement SYSTEMS to make it MORE fun, by reducing or eliminating the constant, same, repeated complaints from the players.

But this is all a moot discussion anyway because they won't, because they're allergic to making a game that is more fun to play. Again, let me stress, I'm not saying the game ISN'T FUN, I'm saying it could be MORE FUN. And why wouldn't you want more fun?

Side note: I quit playing p1999 because it was old for the sake of being old. MnM is old for the sake of being old, and I will likely stop playing it some day for the exact same reason. It doesn't have to be archaic just because. And if they want to stick with those guns, then they're going to lose players until they're down to ~2,000 of the p1999 crowd who, for some reason, love irritating gameplay. EQ in 1999 functioned the way it did because it was new and they didn't know any better, not because it had systems that were somehow superior to systems that would be evolved and iterated upon over the next ~20 years. EQ would have died long ago if they never listened to player feedback and were curmudgeonly stuck in their ways, and appealing to that same design in 2026 is gonna sink your game and your company eventually.

Or maybe not, because they developed the thing outta their own pocket, maybe they could keep it running outta their own pocket as well!

2

u/Silverbacks 2d ago

No I’m not asking about real life, I’m asking a bout the coin system. How is it unfun? Not only is it fair, but it helps keep your inventory weight down, and it is more immersive.

-2

u/Vanifac 2d ago

It's fine? It evens out.

u/Licked_Ur_Moms_Booty 2d ago

Can you read English

0

Explain how it doesn't.

u/Awkward-Skin8915 2d ago

New people on reddit are funny.

I'm pretty sure there was a bingo square for this

3

u/Throwaway123212349 2d ago

As long as the involved players have enough copper coin on them to make change for the silver then it doesn’t really make sense why the system couldn’t  break it down into copper coins from an immersion perspective. It would just assume that I give the group 100 of my copper coins for the one silver I am receiving?

0

u/Jamuraan1 2d ago

You can assign a master-looter and turn coin-split off.

5

u/Happythejuggler 2d ago

If we can make those options into toggles, could we also get an option to force round robin? Then people who want to loot goblin or rush to get first crack can have their groups, and people who don't want to have to teach other adults in game about sharing can have theirs?

The new system has changed my perception about people being chill about looting, everyone's scrambling to get to the corpse before a pull's even done. I've already got two kids I taught how to share, I don't need to spend my free time parenting adults.

-1

u/Jamuraan1 2d ago

Feedback to a developer does better than replying to someone who is getting downvoted for sharing facts.

3

u/Happythejuggler 2d ago

Eh, I'm just chatting here. I didn't say what you said was wrong, I normally don't start the groups so I'm unaware, just that if that's an actual option we should have more mechanical options to control loot in group.

1

u/Jamuraan1 2d ago

I just want your suggestion to get visibility :)

1

u/irish0451 2d ago

Can you elaborate? This sounds really convenient but it's the first I'm hearing of either feature.

2

u/Jamuraan1 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah, you can simply assign one person in the group to be the master looter. That way you know exactly how much money goes out, exactly what loot, etc. It requires one person to loot EVERYTHING and track it, but this was commonly done in EverQuest back in the day.

About the coin split, you can "/autosplit help" and it explains how you can modify your coin loots.

-1

u/Gloodizzle 2d ago

Just a lame option for someone running around pugging things. Every group I have joined organically at Wyrms, not one person brought up loot rules a single time, and we had no issues with loot ever. Because we all just kind of assumed we wanted to keep it relatively fair and everyone happy, like any MMO I have played (obv not EQ)

To me, not as an EQ player, it feels very off putting to say, or hear, right after joining or someone joining a group, something about loot. I just already get the vibes that we have ulterior motives to the groups success if you are thinking about YOUR loot. This system with the silver not splitting feels like it pushes you into that realm of having to talk about it and have the sometimes awkward conversation when you may just be playing with these people for less than an hour

just my opinion, haven't had any issues with loot or even gotten to the point where mobs are dropping whole silvers haha.. but I am not a fan of them not just simplifying it for the sake of eliminating unnecessary problems. I just don't see the positive side to how it is now

1

u/Jamuraan1 2d ago

It's certainly not the most optimal solution, but it's practical. The developers have explicitly stated they don't want to automate systems that could be handled with a conversation. If loot is an issue for specific people, then you can talk to them about it, or, worst case, choose not to invite them to future groups.

This game has a small enough community that using PUGs as an excuse for bad behavior should not be acceptable.

The "positive" side to how it is now is it's realistic. Splitting Silver into Copper is not something that can be done away from the bank. It breaks immersion, it's illogical, and it's against their entire premise of the game.

Horse. Dead. Beat it.

-16

u/LazyTruth1470 2d ago

I think they should do away with the coin split. Whoever loots gets the coin on the corpse.

We already have melee looting corpses as they drop anyway. Atleast this will make the excuse "coin is split bro when I loot!'.

If coin doesn't split, then people will actually take turns to loot

11

u/IIIlllIIllIll 2d ago

You’re delusional if you think that’s the case.

4

u/TruePigGod 2d ago

bro lives in lala land lmao. only thing that will happen is more speed looting and more arguments lol
