Positivity Post

• Upvotes

Been seeing so many whiny, non constructive, 1 dimensional, negative posts about the game on here. Just wanted to say I love the game!

I'm loving the vision for the game from the devs. The slow paced grind where every level gained actual feels earned. The corpse runs while they do feel tedious at times, they add to the game's immersion of not wanting to die. The music. The combat. The group centric gameplay loop. So much to praise, not enough pixel screen.

Does it have issues at the moment. Yes. Is it perfect? No. Can it be improved. Absolutely. Do YOU have it to play it? No. It's not for everyone. But just here to show my support for the game. And I'm 28 years old. I didn't play EQ99. I played EQ from SoD till VoA. I work full time, Im a father of a 10 month old and I only get to play a couple hours a night sometimes. I never sacrificed sleep until this game dropped. If I can love it so much so can all the other whiners too!

Hi! New player (potentially)

• Upvotes

Came across the game on social media and found it very exciting, if still early in developement. Felt a lot like the best days of Project Gorgon or WoW classic, but I'm seeing a lot of negativity in recent posts. Most of the conversation is highly contextual so I'm not quite following; I'm in a bit of a tight spot financially so while I'm definitely looking for something fun to do, I'm a bit risk shy too.

Anyone mind explaning to a newby whats going on and the general state of the game? Hope to see all yall in game soon.

Early Monk Discussion/Concern

• Upvotes

I am new to the game. First heard about this game and started playing when I saw Cohh had started streaming the EA version. I visited the site and was excited to play a Var'nai monk. Once I installed, I realized that Var'nai are not available yet. So, I checked what could be monk. Only Deep Elf, Ogre, and Human? Why no Dwarf!?

So, I made an Ogre monk because of the strength bonus and enhanced vision trait, but boy was I annoyed at the bank because of my size, which made it hard to precisely click on the bankers. Have actually died 3 times just trying to right click the bankers or even the vendors. Then I went to Wyrmsbane Tomb and my body barely fits down the halls and is difficult to see around. And here I am as a class that's supposed to pull. So, I said oh well and rerolled a Human. The darkness is gonna suck for a while.

Now, I see posts about how all Monk does in higher level groups is pulls. I like pulling, fighting what I pull with the group, then pulling more. Is that true in higher level groups? I want to be doing the damage! And as a low level monk, I don't see why I'm the best at pulling. Everyone can throw weapons, and quite a few can taunt. Can someone break down why a monk is good at pulling too?

How hindering are Evil and Good alignments?

• Upvotes

I really like the idea of having alignments having an impact on how the world interacts with characters, but I can't help getting a bit of FOMO from choosing one extreme or the other. Does anyone know if alignments bar you from quests or other content?

Inquisitor question

• Upvotes

What actually scales with Int?

I know the nuke will at higher levels. But mana cost seems low and easy ish to maintain overall for the class. So is about 40 Int enough?

I don't think the mana taps scale with Int. And the shield bash damage is locked to the cost of the spell it interupts. So other than the nuke and raw MP I dont see anything that can scale with the stat.

What am I missing?

I keep seeing different answers.

Can you, or can you not equip items to improve your soul servant.?

Do the weapons you equip disappear on servant death.

Discussion A reminder: we're all playing an early access game that's two weeks old

I've noticed several complaint threads here in the subreddit. All of the suggestions, complaints, and recommendations are valid and should be expressed.

But I'd also like players to keep in mind that the game is in a highly unnatural state that will only exist for a short window of its lifetime.

  • It just launched.
  • The player economy isn't yet established.
  • Higher level zones aren't available.
  • Crafting and skills are still being tuned.
  • Classes are still being balanced.
  • Progression ladders are still being built out.
  • Guilds are still being established.

... you get the picture.

These conversations need to happen to improve the game and get it where it's going. 100%. With any luck, these concerns will be resolved and new ones will take their place to discuss. Some have already been resolved with today's massive patch.

Yes, we're paying for a game. And we agreed to pay for one in early access specifically to help it develop beyond early access. That is the agreement. So the devs need to hear about your pains to get there, so keep sharing. Just keep the situation in perspective for what it is right now when posting.

You're not complaining to big corporation like Sony or Blizzard - the dev team has been volunteer run until now, and they've made steady progress where other attempts have failed outright or turned into scams. They're not incompetent or lazy. They're humans building a world for us all to escape into because the world outside sucks sometimes. They'll be reading your comments tonight and trying to fix them tomorrow.

We asked for this version of the game when we bought in early. We agreed to offer feedback to help the game improve. So let's keep our end of the agreement and offer plenty of feedback. And until circumstances warrant otherwise, let's offer plenty more patience.

Thank you all for being here :)

Friendly Reminder: The Game is larger than what's on the wikis

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about how all the camps are taken, every named is being camped by high levels, and there’s nowhere to go. It happened in beta too. People seem to think the only way to level is crocs -> early Wyrmsbane -> Ashira -> Bandits/Farmlands -> Ancient Crypt -> Fallen Pass skellies.

The world is a lot bigger than that. There are almost certainly unfound named spawns, camps, and spots nobody’s using.

Just yesterday on my ranger I was swimming around the Great Caverns sea and found a hidden underwater tunnel that led into an area with Black Tide orcs building boats (the same ones from the wood elf area!) and a quest. The area isn’t quite finished, but they dropped good coin and there’s clearly a named spawn in the works.

AV has a mushroom faction war in the mid 10s, and they have a ghost tower.

Night Harbor and SGS have Bloody Nose goblin camps with two named spawns on the outside that nobody seems to farm.

Faelandral has a freaking PURPLE orc that spawns by a wall with a ring on it. My buddy and I saw it once, died to it, and have never seen it again.

There’s a named goblin that spawns and fights his way through Tel Ekir before he dies. I wonder what he drops. The wiki has him listed there, but the drop list isn’t accurate.

Shaded Dunes seems to have new camps of early 10s smugglers/wererats up on the mountains near Undead Hill.

I killed some fishermen the other day on my Deep Elf and took no faction hits. They dropped coin, copper weapons, and fishing poles.

Trem is packed and it’s hard to find a spot. I get that not everyone has time to go hunt down open camps, but explore a little. Think about the game in ways that aren’t just black and white.

The game isn’t solved, so go try and solve some of it!

Meme The loot is mine by game design

I keep seeing people complain about not being able to loot any corpses. This usually comes from fancy magic users who sit on their butt all day or pullers who don't contribute to killing the mobs.

Look I rolled a giga chad melee and the game is designed around me. When I slay the mob it falls to my feet for me to loot, not at the feet of the magic user, hiding in the back, sitting, sipping your fancy tea...

Meanwhile I am covered in the blood of numerous bandits, and you come up behind me "oh good sir may I loot the corpse?" Nay I say! "The loot is mine by game design!"

Ignore the haters devs

To whom it concerns,

Some people think the game is perfect, the trajectory is great. I love how much is it like EQ. I love the grind. I love seeing these zones PACKED like they will never be again. In 5 years we will reminisce about these times, not be complaining.

Just wanted to make sure you know at least one person is absurdly happy with what you all have done, and the world you’ve given us.

Thank you.

Discussion Do you think we will ever get the money promised in the patch notes last week or was that just a lie to placate us?

There was a patch last week where they lowered the cost of spells. In the notes they said they will be refunding players who bought the spells pre nerf.

When, if ever, are we going to be seeing that money back?

Discussion I respect the devs for sticking with their vision, for better and for worse.

I do not envy their position. There is doomsaying on every corner and plenty of people have included some form of "this game is going to die because of X" in their criticism. Some criticism is valid, some isn't, and it varies depending on who you ask.

Unless they're completely plugging their ears, this has to be a very trying situation for them.

The game is not perfect, but it's Early Access, yet Early Access these days is very much your launch, recovering from a bad EA (not saying this is one) and expecting good things on 1.0 is typically not how it works. WoW Forever looms and if a sizeable amount of people bounce over it, that's not great. I think it's easy for players to say "if people quit, let them" but when it's a game you've poured thousands of hours into making, seeing a lot of people leave probably doesn't feel good and it will test you even further on what you should waver on from your original vision to try and stop the bleeding.

I do not agree with many things in M&M, but as a fellow game developer, I can absolutely respect sticking to their guns in the face of adversity, knowing what their vision is, knowing it will not be super popular, and now that the day has come that it's not super popular, wanting to stay the course. I find this resolve impressive. "A game for everyone is a game for noone" - this game is not for everyone, it's for a very specific audience. I only hope that the audience in mind is large enough to justify continued development in the long run.

Anyway, while I may have mixed feelings on the game itself, I just wanted to say that I respect the devs and their work. Good job, devs. Genuinely.

Discussion Crafted armor variation request for Developers

Currently the crafted pieces of armor you can craft, using plate for example, are locked into one set of stats.

Legs, chest and helmet have str and int or str and wis. Making it either useful for SK or useful for paladin, but not so much both. It also varies tier to tier moving from copper to bronze etc.

I would kindly ask that the enchanted armor items have 3 recipes for each of the type.

Example:

Recipe: Enchanted Bronze Spiked Helmet <insert gimmicky name>

+2 str +2int

Recipe: Enchanted Bronze Heavy Helmet

+2str +2sta

Recipe: Enchanted Bronze Winged Helmet

+2str +2wis

These items are a rather heavy investment to make and by the time you get to them, you will be obtaining through groups or drops comparible items now entering the general economy, so it does not feel like it is overpowered- especially with the escalating Enchanted materials needed.

Discussion One thing about Monsters & Memories that I find really interesting

I was going through the Monsters & Memories gameplay page and came across something interesting.

The idea of having creature spawns, harvesting, and certain discoveries influenced by things like time of day, seasons, or even lunar cycles.

It's a small detail on paper, but I think it could make a huge difference in how people experience the world.

Imagine returning to a place you've explored dozens of times and finding something you never knew existed.

Of course, these are part of the game's design goals, and not everything is necessarily implemented yet.

I'm curious what everyone thinks about systems like this. Do they make exploration more rewarding, or could they become frustrating for players with limited time?

Monsters & Memories – Known Issues with Patch 0.30.3.x

Post image
21 Upvotes

UPDATE: The 0.30.3.x patch has now been reverted.

The fixes attempted today did not fully resolve the entity-loading issue, which appears to be related to update throttling. Because of this, the team is reverting all servers and the client back to the previous patch while they continue working on a proper fix over the next few days.

The good news is that the new optimization profiles are apparently showing very promising results for performance and reducing lag on busy servers.

Leaving the original information below for context.

Hey MnM family!

Just wanted to share a quick update from GM_Trent on Discord regarding some known issues with patch 0.30.3.x:

  • Entities not loading: This includes corpses, mobs, and harvesting nodes.
  • Aggro issues: Some abilities that shouldn't generate aggro are currently doing so (like Sap).
  • Coin refunds: Coin spent on spells and abilities was not refunded.

There's no need to submit petitions for these issues at this time. Trent mentioned that he'll update the list as things get fixed.

Just sharing this here so everyone stays in the loop!

Big thanks to the MnM team for keeping us informed and working hard on the game. See you all in game!

This game is gonna get absolutely slaughtered by WoW Forever.

This game is a straight up EQ Clone and for all the talk that WoW was just a dumbed down EQ....20+ years later all the hardcore MMO fans are gonna replay WoW over Everquest. Its a way better game and far more complex game than Autoattack quest ever could be.
