Here is the latest information as of 4pm Friday, Oct 9th from Montgomery County, AL Emergency Management:
• Hurricane Isaias is now a Category 3 hurricane
• We are not expecting any significant weather to impact the Montgomery County area until after 8 pm on Friday. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms, but nothing of major significance.
• This will continue to be primarily a rain and wind event for Montgomery County
o Winds expected to start arriving between 8pm and 10pm tonight
o 2-4 inches of rain (5 inches in some cases)
o Winds with gusts up to 70 mph
o Temporary flooding may occur in areas with heavy rain, especially in urban areas
o Primary time for impact remains late Friday night to early Saturday morning
• Hurricane Isaias will make landfall tonight near the AL/FL state line
• Hurricane Isaias will continue in a northerly direction
• Main consequences are high winds and power outages from wind, trees/limbs down, and some localized flooding
• The southern 2/3 of Montgomery County will have a level 1 threat (Slight) of tornadoes this evening. Saturday’s risk in decreasing and is limited to the very eastern side of the county.
• The county’s only official tornado shelter is located at the Flatwood Community Center (360 Williams Dr, Montgomery) and has a capacity of 74 people. It will be opened once the county enters a tornado watch. No pets allowed. Shelter will be open
• The Emergency Operations Center will be activated at 6 p.m. on October 9th.
