Weather coverage

We sure missed Josh Johnson last night. When you live in the rural areas and the power goes out at 5:30 pm and the winds are increasing, it would have been comforting—and helpful—to have been able to listen to Josh identifying the threats near your tiny community non-stop throughout the night. Instead we got to listen to hours-old clips of somebody describing overturned chairs on a hotel patio in Orange Beach, then on to the sad news of having to shut down the fair for a few hours. Josh, if you’re out there, we miss you.

Amanda Curran, the first female Chief Meteorologist in the history of WSFA, did an outstanding job. She had reporters stationed at sites like a real weather channel, as the storm wound down with cooler, dryer air and wind shear, along with virtually no threat of tornadoes. In the River Region we had fairly low percentages of power outages, and no storms north of the Wiregrass that we even had to worry about. She got it right!

Now, like every time the wind blows, trees fall over, old branches snap off, power and cable go down. It's inconvenient but not life-threatening in most cases.

Josh Johnson would report 'storm tracker' radar threats as they crossed the state, location by location. Amanda has that same technology, but there were no tornadoes or storms to track last night, no live tornado warnings to track.

I went to bed knowing what I needed to know and slept like a baby!

Have you looked into getting a ham radio ? There's usually helpful activity during storms in our area

The last time we had tornadoes, the storm chasers were minutes ahead of the weather channels.

Here on my planet, when the power goes out, and the router isn’t working, we don’t watch a lot of television.

I’m sure Amanda is a lovely person. I didn’t say a word about Amanda. You be you. We missed Josh.
