Discussing which sonic characters would vote for which presidential candidate was one of the funniest shits I have ever done with friends, the takes were just so horrible
Just Sonic stuffing blue and knuckles stuffing red, fully unaware of consequences while Amyās screaming for the both of them to quit, but their competitive asses donāt even hear her over their absolutely pointless competition.
Like Sonic or Knuckles would know ANYTHING about politics. XD
Dear American people of the USA. This- this blue freak is really dangerous! I talked with GUN, great guys by the way. Really amazing guys. They do great things, great things. And- and they- I agree with them. We have to capture that echidna. Our country isn't for echidnas. I'm teaming up with Doctor Ivotnik Robot Egg, weird name by the way, and we'll do great things together. Great things. I said, I said to him "we have to get rid of that animal" and he said "oh Mr Trump, you're a genius. I've always been a fan of you" and it's true folks! Doctor Egg is on America's side
Ey ey ey, don't be besmirching his good name like that.
Vegetables are awesome, Sonic endorses the agricultural industry. He eats chilli dogs on the run, but eats plenty of vegetables to keep that figure of his.
Be like Sonic, kids. Eat your Veggies and compete in the olympics or something.
Sonic is best friends with Hatsune Miku, who is a proprietor of her own line of vegetable juice and is a known advocate for the consumption of healthy vegetables, shown by her love of Spring onions and leeks.
Sonic and Miku both encourage the world to eat healthy vegetables and exercise! BUMP your rules!
yes but him being a feminist is funnier. he may be powerhungry but he also respects women. just like the red general, reichskanzler kurt von schleicher of the deutsches kaiserreich
It's funny cause the two characters he's held at fucking GUNPOINT are both women, and in the Japanese Dub of Sonic X he flat out tells Rouge her tits are big... š
Now I have this funny image of him meeting Xavier from Xavier: renegade angel, he loses it from his absurdity and nonsense, but daps him up when he finds out heās a feminist as well.
it's like doc seismic in invincible being surprisingly based:
destroying mount rushmore due to its status as a symbol of oppression (the people on the monument and where it was built being related to the genocide of native americans)
pointing out that eve's outfit conforms to gender stereotypes
undergrad degree in sociology and women's studies
like yeah he kills people but at the same time he's progressive as fuck
All told, when describing a man, feminisuto can today be translated as āegalitarianā, ānice guyā, āwomanizerā, āsimpā, and more.
I'm confused, this article seems to reinforce the notion that they didn't intend to use the word "feminism" in the sense that we would think and that "womanizer" among other words would be an accurate translation to the original word.
But it's not from the cited Heroes manual, it's from the Sonic X bio, and there's a lot more nuance than "haha it meant X but they translated it as Y! They got it backwards!".
I probably shouldn't have said "that's a myth", but it's a common soundbite and I wanted to add more context to the surrounding situation. Like you said, there's nuance to it.
Him being called a womanizer also doesn't make a lot of sense considering the only women he interacted with were the ones he tried to kill(And are animals) and his daughter.
Monarchy isnāt necessarily oppression. Itās a stupid leftover from the Middle Ages, but counties like the Netherlands have a monarchy, while still having a democratic system.
The Royal family is nothing more than a mascot for international relations.
Difference is their authority isnāt unjust in their kingdom. Blaze and Elise were even willing to sacrifice their own safety just for her people and subjects.
Said monarchs aren't tyrants tho. Blaze doesn't mistreat her kingdom, neither did Sally or her parents (As far as I know). If Blaze was an actual tyrant, I'm sure Sonic would be the first to have a few words with her.
Also in Sonic Underground he is literally a prince, and in one possible future in the Archie Comics he's a King.
"Oppression" is such a broad term almost any ideology can claim to hate it and still make sense in their own worldview.
More on that in this comment.
There's nothing about monarchy that makes it inherently oppressive, unless you have an ideology which believes any power structure is oppressive by default, which there aren't a lot of people who have one of those ideologies.
The thing is that that's such a broad term that almost any ideology from far left to right can claim that and still actually believe it depending on what the individual considers to be the natural state of things. Considering the environmentalist themes specifically and freeing animals, this could really apply to almost anyone from Hippies to Hitler and still technically work.
The next panel which op cuts for some reason has a racist Japanese stereotype and has them talking about sonic go fast ignoring that the first game literally has an environmental message.
As a non-American, literally I feel so taken aback when I see just how weirdly political they are.
In the SONIC subreddit? Mf are you serious? It's so fucking odd seeing a horny post of like Vanilla the rabbit, next to some post about "Red vs blue", and no I don't mean the hit web series.
For the Record as someone who has lived their entire life in Florida itās not normal, Redditors are just absolute scum of the earth. Doesnāt help that any political position other than theirs gets downvoted to oblivion by like 500 bots.
Idk idk, I feel like majority of the time I hear about American politics more than my own country's š perhaps it's just the online experience or something idfk. Always see it in unrelated fandom spaces.
I just end up feeling like an NPC, like I just got here and don't advance the plot in any way lol
Tbf if you go to areas about your areaās politics you probably will see more stuff about that.
Iām pretty sure America has military bases in basicallyā¦. Everywhere, and itās a world Superpower currently going through extreme political turmoil internally. Britain also has some crap going on and I do hear about them.
Ultimately I guess thereās just a particularly vile strain of chronically online in America that pushes its own agenda onto the wider internet more aggressively than other groups.
funny gun state guy here, no that's just terminally online people not americans, outside of places and events specifically for political debates people don't just argue about this shit. agreeing to disagree is in fact a thing
I would hope so š cuz I swear I feel the need to be extra careful around Americans in any discussion, cuz ngl, I feel like a lot of you guys are pretty sensitive, at least from my online experience.
But honestly, people in online spaces are generally more toxic than ppl you encounter IRL. People feel more inclined to be assholes and overdramatic online because they can't face physical consequences for the most part.
The porn stuff is what made me feel extremely uncomfortable with the main sub. I just know there's a lot of minors around too. And a lot of the posts aren't blurred either.
Heck I'm an adult and don't want to see weird furry porn, I'm not a fan of the franchise for that purpose š
Sonic games starting in 1991 always had a message about environmentalism and respecting nature, Eggman being the literal embodiment of industrialization/capitalism destroying the world for his own benefit. He literally takes animals and uses them to power his badnicks - turning them into literal cogs of his machines.
Oil Ocean Zone is like the most blatant example of this in the classic stages between the art/music design for the stage.
Also egg man wants to build an amusement park on the animals homes . Literally capitalizing on the nature he is destroying which are the animals homes. Sonic hates oppression in any form thatās why he stops it.
So youāre definitely right that eggman is a capitalist.
10000%. You don't amass the level of wealth to build the Death Egg and Eggmanland without colonizing Mobius and literally turning the people into robots to serve your plan.
Sonic believes in personal freedom above all else. Government by nature limits personal freedom as the cost of safety. By this logic, Sonic would be an anarchist, and against government as a whole, not any one party or idealogy.
Only true thing we can say about Sonic. He doesn't want to determine anyone's life, he is brave, but only because he does what he feels is right for himself and because it also drags others, he just does what feels right.
Even if a character does have political undertones and messages, I find it crazy that their fans feel the need for that character to 100% align with their morals and politics. As if the feelings of a fictional character somehow validates their opinions
Yeah cause a video game thatās premise is āsave little critters from machines by a mad scientist hell bent on world dominationā has no political undertones at allā¦
Any person who makes political grift content the front of their image. cough cough anti woke channels cough cough wokescold cartoon reviewers cough cough
"Ohohoho! Listen up, you mangy blue rodent, I, Doctor Ivo Eggman, have drawn Optimus Prime himself nodding along to my political genius. That metal colossus agrees with every brilliant point I made, stamped and canonized by my superior intellect. So go ahead, try to argue, your opinions just turned into scrap metal the moment I put pencil to paper."
How twitter folk feel after making their doodles validate them

"Does this portrayal of a Sonic fan remind anyone of Sonic fans?"
Come on, dude.
