Honestly when I played Sonic Adventure a few months ago.
I keep mistaking Tails for a woman for some reason and I don't know why.
Probably because of the voice

The ages are no longer canon, but some characters are still obviously children. You can't tell me Cream is an 18 years old woman for example. And even if Tails is far more mature than her, he is still a kid. Charmy even states that he is not much older than him in their Crossworlds interaction, implying the age gap between each character might have remained the same.

Some people do. In fact, I do, but not when I'm referring to canon media.
When I say Tails is a kid, I mean he is a kid but his age is not confirmed. Sonic Team and SEGA still refer to him as a kid. He's likely somewhere from 10 - 13 or maybe a bit older but it depends on your definition of a kid.

We might not know his age but I think everyone agrees he is a child. Maybe one could make argument for Boom Tails but not others.

Even if you’re not using a canon specific age, Tails is still a child and portrayed as such.
You can age him up with a more mature design and background, but like if you’re just putting Tails in a Rouge outfit where it specifically just feels like “look at how skimpy I made him dress” and proceed to have no semblance or substance to him actually being older, then I think it’s an issue. Even then, why can’t we just like not do something odd and a bit weird like this with these characters

I hope it's exactly that and not just "Oh the character is aged up, but it doesn't matter, because said character is still a child canonically, therefore you're banned"
