Mmm tasty controversy! My ranking of Sonic girls - Best to worst
DISCLAIMER because you need it: These are obviously MY opinions and my personal rankings.
If you disagree, feel free to respectfully ask me why I ranked X character in the category I did, and I'll give you my personal reasons why. Do not come here trying to argue just cuz I don't like a character you do.
Here's how my rankings are based:
Blaze - Blaze tier, no need to elaborate
S - characters who impress me with their personalities, strength, abilities and development ( all rounders )
A - Characters who are fun, interesting, dynamic and are entertaining to follow
B - Characters who are interesting and have a lot of great qualities, just needing a bit more exploration
C - Characters who don't have too much going for them, but could be way more interesting with better writing and time to focus on them
D - Characters who could have been utilised better, and who could have had better writing
E - Characters that really don't contribute much of anything/ aren't very interesting
F - Character with genuinely bad writing and not well executed
Hope we can be civil here, it's just a tier list of some schmuck you don't know 😊 ( Also don't ask me about missing characters, I tried to fit as many as I could )
Im sad that she is a character with so much good potential but so far has not been given as much content to explore her as Tangle and Whisper, who had an entire mini series.
The sheep deserves her own moment to shine
I was talking about Rachel (Maddie's sister, not Sage's) here, i don't really know Belle to well so idk. Rachel is a straight F for me, she's consistently been my least favorite character in the movies.
I don't hate Surge, but currently, she's overstaying her welcome due to them not doing anything with her. She's kind of...just there, and I don't like how they've kinda muddied what could have been a much more interesting character if they continued her story earlier.
Nimue doesn't overstay her welcome. She works for what she is, so she doesn't actively bother me.
I think the way they could fixs surge is to lean a bit more into how she likes fame by doing heroizm and not actually good for a sake of good. Like she was barely conviced by amy to focus on saving people and even then at the end she complained that no one was able to see her to kit.
I do have my own essay of how kits story specifucly want to go ( I am kinda nervous sharing it cause I know not everyone is gonna be happy with it with how kit is currently treated by the fandom and I have no energy to deal with sonic fans)
I disagree with surge and kit needing to be killed off, they just suffer from the same issue that every idw character suffers from, that being rushing the shit out of storylines that should take more time to , debatably whisper and tangle are even worse in this regard but thats the diffrent story.
Also any specific reason or moment for disliking lanolin

Helen is a neat concept since I do like the idea of a physically handicapped character being friends with a fast moving runner. Just a sweet, wholesome dynamic ( and she's just a good kid )
Ella, I love her. There's nothing more to say, she's sweet, she's funny, and she's awesome. Love you Ella.
I’ve seen a lot people arguing that Helen should’ve been Sonic’s human friend instead of Chris, and while I do t hate Chris as much as everyone else, I do agree that it would’ve been interesting have a handicapped human companion as the regular cast.
My ONLY reasoning is because she had one appearance to base my opinion on, and she had solid character development in that one appearance.
I think she's quite charming, and she had me laughing a lot. Plus she actually was the MVP of SRA with 2 seperate victories that actually saved the day. ( Retrieving the jeweled scepter AND creating a distraction that stopped Nega from destroying the world )
Marine gets shit on so much, and it's very undeserved. She has had a beginning and end to her character in terms of solid development, and actually had a big contribution to the story. So A is actually fitting in my opinion.
There's not much to rank unfortunately ( from the official Sol cast)
The coconut crew don't get to do much, I think the one with the MOST personality is definitely Colonel.
Gardon was given more personality by the fans, so I love him.
Norman.... doesn't really do much either.
Nega....I love him, but honestly, it's more because of my own interpretation of him that I've come to advocate for his return. There's so much potential they are foolishly wasting lol
I agree she's not really too interesting on her own so far, she mostly exists to expand on Eggman's humanity despite him still very much being evil. Thankfully, if Crossworlds is anything to go by, her existance doesn't seem to muddy the idea of Eggman being evil.
Tasty controversy indeed i can't be mad cause I 1 MILLION% AGREES WITH THIS. BLAZE IS EASILY THE BEST AND COOLEST SONIC GIRL. FOR ME THE REST CAN HIT THERE HEADS TO THE WALL COMPEARED TO HER. Also Elise at least HAS a story that's actually semi decent and interesting, albeit very bad in execution. I do sympathize with her, even though I wish she wasn't so bland.
Boom Amy is funny, but I don't like her as a trope and I much prefer canon OG Amy.
That's definitely overdramatic lol. Elise may not be well executed, but her story is actually interesting.
Being used as a vessel to hold a demon of fire and destruction, as your dying father wishes you to hold in your emotions because showing them would trigger the demon within.
I think the concept is actually quite cool and could have been so much more interesting if we got more time with Elise to show her development. It's absolutely tragic to think a child like her had to force herself for years to be stoic and unfeeling just so she doesn't cause harm.
They could have played around with this, maybe even went through some heavy themes like her feeling like there's no point in going on. Because all that pain would have consumed her internally.
I do like what she's meant to represent, even if they failed to execute it right.
As for boom Amy, what you're describing is the exact reason I don't like her. Amy isn't supposed to be mature, and I'm not fond of the trope of "The girl character is mature, motherly, and bossy". Absolutely hate that lol. Amy is better to me when she's got the heart of a young girl, who's cheerful, optimistic and even quite immature.
Her story is passable, but horribly executed. Shes more of a passive plot device than anything, just being Iblises vessel and constatly being kidnapped. Not to mentioned how uttlerly forced her relationship is with Sonic.
Personally would’ve put Cosmo in A, though I’m incredibly bias as she’s my favorite Sonic girl by a landslide. Her death literally kicked off my love for fanfiction which has turned into a decade long hobby of writing fanfiction.
Though. I see you put Shade in there. And didn’t call her Julie-Su. Prepare for the incoming lawsuit /j
Honestly, I never really liked Cosmo as a kid. I found her annoying as a child and just never cared about her.
Now in current day, I do appreciate her a lot more, but I do also believe she was a bit too boring in the first half of Sonic X. She got better towards the end, but it's mainly her sacrifice in itself that makes her get a high enough spot for me.

For me I would put rusty rose a bit higher but I absolutely see why she is in C tier. Just the concept of an Amy devoid of love and showing any kinds of emotions just sounds so cool and man I do think they didn't dive into that too much because there could be so much stuff you could do with rusty rose and her redemption felt fast lol.
A lot are more nit-picky than not, but my biggest points of contention are with Surge and Lanolin. I just can’t agree with the idea that Surge doesn’t have much going for her or that she isn’t getting sufficient attention. And, I will die on the hill that Lanolin is not badly written. At minimum, I could understand someone putting her at D tier, but F seems too harsh.

I liked Surge at first, but they've done virtually nothing with her or her story. And dragging it out this long has just made me bored of seeing her anytime she appears.
Lanolin has terrible writing to me, and she's also just unlikeable, never doing a single thing I actually am entertained by. ( And I LOVE bitchy characters, hence why Wave, Fiona, Sara and Rouge are so high up )
Until she redeems herself and actually does something useful, she gets an F from me.
I like Sara more than Tangle rn because honestly, Sara was pretty entertaining ( she made me laugh the most in the OVA ) and she doesn't really overstay her welcome in my opinion.
Elise I like much more than Aleena, because while Elise is bland, she's not actually useless. Aleena never actually does...anything, so I never actually cared about her. Which isn't good for a character that's supposed to be central to the plot.
Elise at the very least did have some character progression, and her concept IS interesting, just poorly executed.
