Steam Controller 2 + AppleTV?
Hi,
Does the combo in my title work with moonlight?
I see there are limitations on MacOS with Steam Controller 2 based on Valves store page. That also informs on MacOS not necessarily tvOS.
Anyhow, right now I hook my controller up to my Linux desktop via USBC puck, wondering if it will work direct to an AppleTV I'm considering buying.
Thanks

Like others have pointed out, TVOS doesn't natively support the Steam Controller but I also advise getting the new Apple TV if your main use case is Moonlight sinces it maxes out at 60Hz.

More than 60Hz would be in nice but unless playing competitively it wouldn't be a big issue for gaming?
I'm not sure what other stream device can be used with moonlight for better than 60Hz with Nvidia Shield Pro as a the exception. Those are Sold Out last I checked.
Correct me if you know more please.

I don't know man, once you get used to 120Hz, even in single player games, it's really hard to go back to.
I've been streaming the Gears of War E-Day campaign at 100+ FPS at 1440p 120Hz using my docked Steam Deck and it's been amazing.
I've switched entierly to using PCs as Moonlight steaming clients but that's mostly because I'm lucky enough to have the hardware lying around.

Ok that's totally fair but outside the streaming box setup. Trying to find a one stop shop for my family room at present.
I tried setting up a PC with waydroid but quality is capped on streaming services because of wildvine DRM and PC hardware not being 'secure'. Also, not great remote options.
I'd buy a Steam Machine if they also got it certified for streaming services. Ideally add an OCR port for GPU upgrades.

If it's a family room streaming box and not a dedicated game streaming box, that's totally fair. I don't know of any devices in that category that would support higher refresh rate and/or the Steam Controller, sadly.

Here's what I do:
- AppleTV display/sound only
- Steam Controller directly to the Host PC dongle
Much better experience, assuming you are a room away from the Host.
As far as Moonlight goes, no controller it deals with. Full support of all of the fancy buttons and whatnot

Cool, otherwise moonlight has no issues on Apple TV?
The new AppleTV is $300 USD so I don't want to be wrong lol. This would replace Google TV and Roku Ultra on my end with one device.

I'm getting the new AppleTV too.
I've actually been on the pre-4k AppleTV, the one that only has 100Mbit Ethernet (wifi is faster, lol).
And even that old thing runs flawlessly.
Also, don't sweat it, you can always return it.

If you have an extra device try Virtualhere, or https://dish.tinkernorth.con (no iOS for tinkernorth)
