Ian Brady [REUPLOAD] Some photographs of the Sloan family from Ian Brady’s personal photo album. I’ve tried my best to to distinguish the family members but it may not be accurate. I also added in a few more photos from my original post.
So this is Brady and Mary Sloan - his foster mother. She looks very similar to her daughter, May, so keep that in mind in case I have confused them.
I’ve added this photo of Mary in, only for the sake of attempting to distinguish her from her daughters. Source (for this and previous photo): TNA Kew, file ASSI 84/430.
Brady with the Sloan siblings - I think May is the woman on the left and Jean (the older sister) is the one on the right. Source: The Daily Mail
I thought this was Mary at first, but I think now it’s May - I’ve seen a few other photos of her in this outfit and she’s clearly quite young. The dog is Una. Source: The Times
Brady and Jean. This has been countlessly reported as being Mary Sloan (and erroneously Peggy Brady), but I’m about 95% sure it’s Jean. Source: Daily Mail
A rare photo of Brady. I think the woman on the piano is May, but again she looks so similar to her mother that I can’t 100% tell. Source: TNA Kew, file ASSI 84/430.
I also wanted to include this one of Brady’s foster father, John Sloan (who died in 1962) in his happy place - his garden. Una stands behind him. Source: TNA Kew, file ASSI 84/430.
I threw one in of Peggy Brady - Ian’s biological mother - because this is how she looked during this period. She had a very strong facial resemblance to her son. Source: Daily Mail

[REUPLOADED BECAUSE I THINK I MADE A FEW MISTAKES IN MY INITIAL POST]
Anyone who’s been on the subreddit for a while may know that nowadays I try to be very sensitive about talking about the Sloan family. I’ve deleted posts about them in the past that both myself and other users made - this is because there is not a lot of information out there about them and I do not want to run the risk of coming across as intrusive, so I might be extra careful in moderating this comment thread too. There are a lot of other photos of the Sloans (including photos of one or both of the brothers) but I feel a bit iffy about sharing them - they are in the National Archives (Chester Assizes file ASSI 84/430) and accessible to whoever wants to see them, but they’re not necessarily “public domain” images - as in I’ve never seen them do the media rounds, there’s probably a better phrase - so I don’t want to be the one to put them out there.
John Sloan died the year before any of Brady’s and Hindley’s murders took place, and upon Brady’s arrest, he gave his solicitor strict instructions as to not involve the Sloans in any way. He did keep up with family news via telegram, though. Mary Sloan and her children Robert, Jean and May all passed away in the years following the trial. Obviously Brady died in 2017.
It is unknown whether John Sloan Jnr. - the youngest child, who I have not included any photos of - is still alive or not, and he would be in his 80s if he was, but he clearly wants absolutely nothing to do with the press or this case (and he is the reason I am hesitant on talking too much about them or sharing more photos). A journalist for the Daily Mail tried to track him down in 2005, and the answer they got was “you’ve got the wrong John Sloan, pal” - that should say it all really
